Deed of debt discharge

I sold a house and paid off a mortgage.i now received a letter from the bank looking for a fee to release a deed of discharge.surely i should be intitled to the discharge deed ,period. What is the norm on this mater

Depends what your mortgage said. Almost inevitable that you agreed to the fee.

Does it not say in the letter you got from the bank?
