I drive a 2012 bmw 640d I failed the nct on dip beam they said they needed to be lowered so I went to my mechanic who only last week got my nct ready and it passed. He told me that they were perfectly fine on his machine but lowered them anyway now the lights are definitely not as good at night I might as well be driving my wife’s 07 avensis.

    What is your question?
Do you need a recommendation in your area?
Do you want to try to adjust them yourself?

Sorry meant to say that the mechanic got my Toyota avensis ready for the nct including aligning the lights so I know he knows what he is doing, so when my bmw failed in alignment I brought it in to him and he said on his machine they are perfect. He lowered them anyway as the nct said I needed too to retest but the performance of them on the road now is brutal, how come his machine said they are fine but the nct’s said they are too high

Just get the cert and then return to mechanic to set them right.

    while we're at it...

    * failed NCT the other day for one dip light being out of focus....does that mean out of alignment or headlight casing scoffed ?

Could be that it's not producing the right light pattern.
Incorrect bulb, bulb upsidedown, bulb not seated correctly.
