Carrying over holidays entitlements post long term sick leave

    Hi,

My husband has been out of work for 10 months on sick leave which started in March 2019 and ended February 2020. He has accrued 29 days holidays for the year 2019. He started back to work on 04/02. We had thought he could take his 29 days holidays from 2019 as days off spread out throughout this year but has been told by his employer today that he cannot and must be paid for them or at least they will pay him for 20 days and allow him the other 9 to take as holidays this year. They have cited a change in law last year which allows them to do this, I have searched and cannot find anything about this, I can find legislation that states when out of work on sick leave you can carry over holidays entitlements for a 15 months period once you return to work.

Can they make him take payment for the holidays that he accrued during his sick leave rather than carry it over, he was out sick due to a work place accident.
