Car for circa 5000 euro - mostly short journeys

On the back of a similar thread below I am looking for some advice for a second car purchase.

Looking to spend around 5,000 Euro on a second car. Already have a large family diesel for longer journeys.

My daily commute is less than 10km return but then once a week I travel slightly further into Dublin which works out at about 80km return. At the weekends it would be used for similar short hops around our local area.

Ideally I would fit the 3 kids (no car seats) and some sports gear comfortably into it for short trips to matches etc. I am 6'4'' so smaller cars are not really an option.

Based on reading a few threads here - I would be happy with a Megane or Focus. Also like the look of a few Avensis recommended here but am wary of using such a large Diesel engine (2.0 D4D) for repeated short journeys. Low mileage would also be a priority for me to reduce maintenance costs.

All recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
