E Class brakes - use FastFit?

    Greetings!

I drive a 2010 E-Class. Last week I noticed a 'clunk' coming from the rear driver's side, when pulling off from a stop. Cannot replicate the noise by bumping up and down on the corner of the car (I'm 80kg:pac:). So I suspect its the brake caliper or pads. I'm a very sedate driver and never have to really press the brakes hard. Until today, when a light changed as I reached it. The car pulled noticeably to the right, I was doing 50kph. I imagine an emergency brake at motorway speed would be 'problematic' to say the least. It is therefor incumbent on me to get it looked at asap. But where? I don't think a 10 year old Merc warrants paying chrome-and-glass-dealer prices. FastFit near me, advertises that they do brakes, pads & calipers. Any reason NOT to go there???

cheers and thanks for any input.

Okay so you only have 2 choices - dealer or some chain? really? Would you not consider a local mechanic that comes well recommended? At least then you're not throwing your money at a dealer or chain.

    Hi turbbo.

Fast Fit is very near me. I don't know any local mechanics. Most recent service was done by an indy (who specialises in Mercs) across the city, but I'm loath to drive across knowing there's a problem with my brakes.

Interestingly, a mechanic (retired now) has previously advised me to use Fast Fit to replace discs, (on an old Fiesta), he said they'd be cheaper and quicker than he would. So I did. No problems, but it was a Fiesta.

    Thanks for your input.

Maybe if you posted the general area you are in there might be a few suggestions for local indys ?

    Good thinking, Olddog.

    My general area is Santry/Beaumont/Artane/Coolock.

OP, a 'clunk' is more likely to be a suspension component or a bushing.

    :(
Yeah, was trying not to think that, as I suspect that's a more expensive issue.
