My Bro in Law's Yaris recognises the speed limit signs....just one step to link that to the speed limiter .

It's just a matter of investing in the technology to perfect the system

System is not nearly reliable enough. Car suddenly decides that dirty 80 sign was a 30 and jams on?

    That's not perfectable. Ever.

There are also places where I could drive through a businesses carpark and miss the car 'seeing' a 80-50 transition or v/v on countless approach roads in to towns.

GPS based systems are worse due to potential poor location fixes.

A bigger problem with GPS based systems is keeping the database of speed limits up to date.

    This is marvelous news.

More should be rolled out and the location kept secret.

They should be camouflaged. Even work with An Post and other state bodies and build them into
    An Post vans.
