    Asking for a friend ;).

    2008 Toyota Rav 4.
    Automatic.
    30,000 documented miles.
    Full service history.
    One owner.
Leather everything :D and electric everything else.
    Mint condition.

I know it's an old car but still going to be very dependable. It's a 2.0L but road tax doesn't bother me (my friend :D).

    Thanks.

Which tax system is it on? You can check by reg.

    They’re €1200 tax on Co2 and €710 on cc.

I think the auto box and the mileage stand to it. It’s probably worth €2000 or even €2500 if it’s on cc tax

They’re an absolute pig on petrol as they’re full time 4wd and slushbox

Interesting comment. They seem to make a good bit more than that in the UK.

It's UK value has little relevance to what it's worth here though.

    Are you buying or selling?

For someone in a country area that does small mileage and doesn’t care about all the latest tech it would make a very reliable car for tipping about

Buying. Looking at it in the UK.

For someone looking for an old reliable car for tipping around with minimal expense this would not be a great option. It'll cost a fortune on petrol and then the tax is either very high or crazy high depending on the system.

I'd say demand for it would be very low and it is worth very little.

If you are buying in the UK it is an even worse bet. It'll make reasonable money in the UK but its value here in Ireland will be a fraction of that if you ever plan to sell. Consider the money spend on it lost.

And for a 2008 car, full service history doesn't mean a damn to most people who will be buying cars of that age, unless it is some sort of noteworthy or luxury hi spec car.

For 2008 cars, the average buyer is looking for a good length of NCT, and tax left on it and getting it as cheap as possible.

All points above taken on board. But why is there such a difference in price ? Most car prices here have a UK comparison less vrt etc etc. But this (all rav 4 UK prices) appear to be way off the mark.

Because our motor tax system is different to the UK. How much a car costs to tax here has a significant bearing on it's market value and appeal.

You can buy big old luxobarges here for a fraction of what you will pay for them in the UK too simply because most of them cost over 1500 to tax per year over here which puts alot of people off buying or owning them.

I understand that, but these cars are "many times" dearer in the UK than here. Some are between €6k and €7.5K

That generation Rav4 is bullitproof and super reliable. Both mothers have one and have racked up lots of mileage on them over the years with very few problems.

They do around 30mpg which isint amazing but they are a heavy 4x4 at the end of the day. Surprisingly capable offroad and in the snow, very handy for the mother in law on country rough terrain and poor weather conditions.

Wouldnt be too bothered by the leather and auto box to be honest, they are not worth the premium and tax is higher if Co2 based.

Looking on donedeal asking prices for 2008 models range from 3-4k. I would look to buy locally if you are serious about these and tick your need boxes.
