    Well.
    I picked up an 08 2.0 d4d avensis with a starting problem.
Basically the issue is first thing in the morning the car never starts first time. When you crank it it turns over and feels like it's about to start then just die.
Will do this multiple times before it starts.
I've noticed if I just turn the key instantly without waiting for the glow plug lights to go out or any light,it starts on maybe the 2 or 3 attempt ( that could be just luck)
Now after its started the first time, throughout the day it starts fine everytime. I've left it over a few hours and started first click.Seems to be a first time starting problem.
Any ideas? Battery is fine. Thought starter but I'd assume the starting would be throughout the day.
Another thing ive noticed was the idle would at times feel sluggish and it cut out while idling once before.

On a basic level it sounds like glow plugs but that engine is prone to head gasket problems, if it's weeping internally it will be hard to start. Check coolant level, get a pressure test done on it or run it up to operating temperature and then *carefully* remove expansion bottle cap. If she puffs steam up at you like a geyser, your head gasket is done in.

Coolant level fine. No steam. Temperature gauge fine. No mayonnaise on oil cap or dipstick so not looking like head gasket.
Reading online seems the scv could be the issue I'm having.

Don't think so on an 08, that was an issue on the earlier 1CD engine. But yes, symptoms are the same
