So I just gave a granny car a once over for the NCT. Only thing that stuck out was some cracking on the tyres. It's a 141 alto that doesn't go over 40 mph.

Have attached photos for youse to take a look. Do they need replacing? I imagine they are the original tyres. It has 17k on the clock!

Jesus, I don't about how the NCT judge things, but I wouldn't want to be driving around with those tyres.
Is it mainly used in the UK if it's only driven at 40mph?

    I'd replace, rubber is perished.

What is the date stamp on the tyre

NCT testers don’t ask or want to know what speed the car is driven at, they just assess if it’s safe or not to drive on Irish roads, so a maximum speed of 120 km/h should always be assumed.

Irregardless of the above, those tyres are not safe and would rightly result in an NCT Fail.

So 31st week of 2014, I'd say the originals from new alright.

If test results in a Fail Dangerous car will be stickered not to be driven, you really don't want the hassle for that to happen.
When a "Fail Dangerous" result occurs on the NCT the owner is notified of the risk and a sticker is placed on the car, they are informed that driving the car would be committing a criminal offence and are advised that the vehicle should be towed away from the test centre. If the owner states that they intend driving the car they are advised that the Gardai will be notified.

    They're a fail. You'd get tyres fitted for 50 a corner easy.

Surely not original if the car is 141!

    Yes your right.

They don't look like a premium brand either so perhaps replaced, then again could just be the condition of them now.

    They're desperate. Definitely a fail.

Wouldn't bother looking online. You're not looking to spend big bucks on premium tyres, so everything you save will be wiped out with a fitting fee.

Just call a few garages and see what they have in stock.

Thanks everyone. We are in Tallaght so will chase up a few tyre places now. Dont suppose anyone recommends anywhere handy. NOT old bawn tyres, last time I went there, the tyre was put on the wrong way round.

Make sure your granny puts some air in the tyres next time.... the one pictured look as though they've been driven flat at some stage...

Bit of a treck for you but United Tyres Ballyfermot. 35 each. Im Going to them for years and they give me some really good ones. Give them a bell.

Make sure you get tyres suited to our conditions and not chinese ones that dont grip.

Theyre Falken tyres which would be a middle of the road tyre but they certainly shouldn’t look like that after 6 years unless they’ve been left parked for long periods in deep water or very cold temperatures.
