Which party did your first preference go to?

IF YOU HAVEN'T VOTED YET, DON'T VOTE HERE. Results are hidden until this time tomorrow.

Parties are sorted by the number of seats they had at the last election, by the number of seats they had at the calling of this election, parties that have previously had seats and then alphabetically. There are 28 registered parties, but the boards.ie system only allows 25 categories, so I've had to merge some.

    Poll being added.

And some people have voted here already. I suspect they haven't voted in real life yet.

Just back from voting myself. Kildare south. I was the 6th person in the ladies were telling me.

I voted myself a while ago

Just back from voting. Never seen the polling station so busy. When will the results of this be shown - why choose hidden?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,898 ✭✭✭✭Ken.

Poll closes at 8am tomorrow morning. The choice to leave the results hidden are the ops choice. I imagine its so that people won't jump on a bandwagon if they see one crowd is leading.

Do the results become visible once the poll is closed?

Yes. If for some reason they don't I'll screenshot them and post the screenie. As a mod I can see the poll results.

Just as a snapshot so far I'll say the voting is interesting

    Peoples front of Judea 16%
    popular front 12%
    Judean peoples front 0% splitters
    Romans (cause of the roads)72%

Voted, polling station was jammed, great to see.

Just back, steady stream of people which is unusual for this area.

Voted there this morning around 10:30am with the brother and mother. Polling station wasn't jammed but there was a steady flow of folks coming in and going out. Lots of young people which was good to see.

Think it was probably a bit busier this morning due to the weather later and the rugby being on. I know that's why i went down early anyway.

Voted @ 930 this morning on SCR Limerick, all 4 polling booths very busy

Voted in Galway City about 10am.
    Gentle but steady flow through.

    Why are the results hidden?

Bit early in the game, 20% turnout at my ballot box thus far. Cast vote at 7am. Permasquare inspired me to lean towards the Irish Freedom party, notion of contributing tax to the state is impinging on my liberty. Almost readied the hut in nearby woodland to live off the land.

    Why are the results hidden?

People will skew results if they know the results. It's to get an accurate reading without bias of knowing what other people are doing.

SF are 0%? HAH I'll say I voted them!

Are the communist party of Ireland even running a candidate?

Yeah, some of the choices are a bit off tbh with limited places.
At least the extreme right-wing knobhead parties should have been separate because they are actually running candidates.

    i mean, UP, HRRA etc

Bit pointless keeping the poll hidden til tomorrow when we’ll have actual exit polls at 10pm tonight.

Eoin O Broin SF Dub MW is frantically tweeting about the reported tailing off of voters in DMW.
Looks like it won't be even 60% final turnout if current trend keeps up.

    (weather is rotten)

    1.FG

Voted for the sitting TD, s but my number one is a councellor who won't get in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,895 ✭✭✭Poor_old_gill

I voted for a TD who is a member of a party - more because I like said TD and think they do a good job than for the party.

I know one winning has an influence on the other but that's where my first preference went.

I was the same with my votes, to be honest.

So about 22% each for the top three (according to some basic exit poll)

Anybody know roughly the percentages the last time or within last few years?

In the 2016 general election, Fianna Fáil secured 25.5% of the first preferences. Fine Gael took 24.3%; while Sinn Féin obtained 13.8%.

    All down to transfers now.

Shinners will be raging as there's bound to be a few surpluses going to other parties.

Who would be Taoiseach based on this?

FF and FG would team up in a grand coalition to keep SF out.

Too soon to say. I’m guessing FF are more transfer-friendly than the other two and if that hunch is right, could be Micheál Martin, probably with the Greens and some Indies.

FF and FG would team up in a grand coalition to keep SF out.

...which would quite possibly result in the next government after that being led by Sinn Féin. If FF/FG want to neuter Sinn Fein for the foreseeable future, all they have to do is go into government with them and do to them what they did to the Greens and Labour.

Disappointed by RTE. No scrolling banner showing poll results so anyone who joined late heard panel discussing "looking at these figures" but not knowing what they were. A bit amateurish in this technological age. had to wait until the chose to show a static image to know what they were talking about.

Sir, – Does Paul Delaney (Letters, November 5th) not realise that the acceptance of the idea of a rotating taoiseach merely increases the likelihood of additional spin emanating from Government? – Yours, etc,
