Does my car need a minor service?

    Hi,

I have a 2007 Kia Ceed 1.6 crdi. I got a full service exactly 1 year ago. The service intervals on the sticker is 15000km. Ive only went 8000km in the last year. As I understand a minor service consists of an oil change and oil filter. Seen as my car has only travelled 8000km in the last year does my car still need a minor service or can l leave it for another 6 months or so?

Why after a year would it still need a service (oil change) just because 12 months has passed even though I’ve only clocked up 8000km in that time?

    Thanks

Generally the oil and filter should be changed once per year regardless of mileage. The lubricity of the oil degrades with time.

My little 1996 plaything has only turned 800miles since April 2019. Come springtime when I take it out of hibernation, I'd drop the oil and change the oil filter regardless. 4 litres fully synthetic and an oil filter €45. An hour of my time max. Peace of mind.

Oil,Oil filter and Air Filter, these three things along with a top up of screenwash will keep your car running at full throttle for many years to come.

If your doing such low mileage then your car should at the very least be getting fresh oil once a year. With doing low mileage time intervals between servicing is more important than mileage intervals imo.

Fresh oil and filter never did a car any harm, well unless you put the wrong stuff in.

Most non-longlife change schedules will be 1 year or a distance interval. I don't think I've ever let oil in a car go through two winters.

12 year old car? depends how much you care for it, but you could let it slide, it won't be around much longer probably..

Having said I change the oil every spring on whatever Classics I happen to have at the time.
