So Philip has come out as gay. I personally think that this is a really hard thing to do especially when you are married with kids, even if they are adults.
I don't think it will change anything for him work wise but will give him peace of mind.

I don't think it will harm his career. It was probably a real viewings boost for the show he hosts. I saw clips of Eamon Holmes and his wife being all lovey dovey and supportive earlier on which is total hypocrisy because they have apparently had a massive fall out recently and haven't been speaking. He was asked at the time of the wedding if he was gay but dismissed it as rumour and gossip, today he said he wasn't being honest with himself then, well he wasn't the only one he wasn't being honest with.

I've no issue with the man being gay, a lot of gay/lesbian folks married and tried to live a straight life for various reasons, even in the '90's being gay could destroy a career. I'm really not surprised that he's gay and it doesn't bother me in the slightest, I never particularly liked him. Hopefully his wife will get support with it, it must be extremely difficult to deal with this when he has such a high public profile and the public can be very cruel.

I wondered about that too. I didn't see the full interview but he referred to his head being consumed with it recently which made me wonder if he was talking about the fall out with his Co host, can't think of her name, not Holly whatsherface. There was a lot of talk over the last few months about him being extremely difficult to work with. You can only take what he says at face value, but he said that when he told his wife and daughters that he was gay they gave him a very loving very long hug, which to me, suggests that they already had suspicions. I know if my husband of several decades suddenly announced to me that he was gay out of the blue I'd be shocked and a hug wouldn't be my first reaction.

I’d say that it was about to become public so he jumped before he was pushed.

I feel for his missus and kids as now the media will scrutinise them and thrust them into the limelight etc., hounded by press

Tough on his family alright. I'm not surprised though. I always thought he was a little "different". I presume he broke the news before a newspaper broke it

Happy he can be himself and be happy, but lousy for the family if he knew he was gay before he married and had kids then that’s wrong, then again it was a different time he had to hide his sexuality also but shouldn’t of used and ruin his wife life there is no good and bad in this situation.

what a selfish prick. he's taken the best years of her life by lying for so long. the only good to come out of it for her is having 3 kids and hopefully half of his fortune.

Really, nowadays, who gives 2 fvcks what way him or anyone else swings. Gay straight, bi, really, nobody gives 2 sh1tes. I'm not overly familiar with Schofield and his work, once he's not being a Holy Joe and preaching to viewers about how THEY live their lives then let him off. Really Philip, get over yourself, you're not that important or interesting, live your life and most of us don't want or need to hear about it - we all have our own lives.

Tough on the family though, as well as the questions about his fidelity or otherwise, he's exposed his family and their circumstances to the rabid British tabloid media.

He says that "with the strength and support of my wife and my daughters, I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay".

You'd think he'd only discovered it last week, when he has known for 40+ years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,644 ✭✭✭✭punisher5112

So selfish, he knew he was gay from a very early age...

Shocking the amount of men at this.

Obviously women too but it does seem to be more men....

With all this gender fluid and everyone is gay etc I honestly believe the world has gone mad.

If someone is gay that's is fine, I've no issues with that but it's all this rubbish and carry on that's getting really annoying.

Oh Philip what a man, we will stand by you yada yada blah blah....

I didn't know he had a wife and kids, that was a bigger shock to me I always thought he was gay. My reasoning is the relationship he has with Holly and some of his mannerisms.

Not that it matters I just thought it was a known thing.

As for all this talk about selfish, yes it was on some level but that is for his wife to judge and not us. You can imagine back in the day it was serious thing to come out as gay and it would have changed his life for possibly the worst. To meet societal expectations he had to hide who he was.

In Ireland maybe but less so in the uk as the Catholic church didn't have the power they had here.

People saying he was selfish are ridiculous.

I'm sure him and the wife were in love and had happy times. Is it any different to caitlyn jenner, in fact it's probably not as bad.

What surprises me is that anyone actually gives a toss one way or another in this day and age.

Let people live their own lives however they want. Look at Elton John, sure he got married to a woman early on too

His next appearance on celebrity juice should be good.
Keith Lemmon is not one to shy away from this kind of stuff.

I do feel for him, can’t be easy to broadcast your woes to the world. And I know that being gay wasn’t at all easy back in the eighties, particularly if you had a high profile tv career. But it’s borderline unforgivable to deceive someone in that way, for such a long time too. I’m sure he didn’t set out to hurt her but surely he must have had some idea of who he was before he got involved with his wife and asked her to marry her.

It only took 19 posts into a thread about an English TV presenter on English TV who has never once ever mentioned personal religious beliefs for someone on boards to manage, with extreme difficulty, to drag RCC into the equation.
This kind of posting never ceases to amaze and amuse me.

A lot of it was for image.....

Look at George Michael and Christmas song etc... It was sold as he was chasing women etc...

    It is selfish.

I've no issues if they're gay, go ahead but starting a family and faking it until they feel it's time.... Come on...

Gay is a thing though. 'Gender fluid' is just a fashion at the moment I think. It will fade away, and people will look back some day and think - 'what the phuq were we thinking???".

It's good that people are able to be more open nowadays. The world was a lot madder before, when people felt they had to deny their own gender or sexual orientation for the sake of conforming.

Don't think your in the same field....

Read what I was replying to and it may well help you understand.

It's an Irish forum with I'm guessing mainly Irish replying etc...

It was seen as a crime here and the church was always against it.

Just saying, never said I believe in it.

I very much hope so as it's absolutely warping kids minds as some are bringing them up as such....

We often question the animals behaviour here on the farm !
They want females if possible and when there not allowed females only male company there gay side takes over !
Is there something to be learned from that!
Saw our biggest bull one day get caught on a gate , the younger bull abused him while he was caught for the few hours never did I see the big lad touch him again up until then he bullied him constantly , so are animals any different to us at the end of the day !

Wasn't he about to be dropped from this morning over rumours of bullying?

Seems like the perfect time to come out and save his career.

I think gender fluid is the way the future will be.
No gay or lesbian or straight, just everyone attracted to other people regardless of sex.

He wasnt going to be dropped, but there are huge rumours about him behind the scenes, particularly with him and Ruth after he interrupted her on air.

After the NTAs the talk was about the awkwardness between Philip and Ruth on stage.

I love Philip Schofield. No word of a lie. But I wondered this morning why he did it on Ruth and Eamon's show? Why not do it on their own day? And it ended in loves and cuddles from all. Just a bit odd considering all the rumours.

Just had me wondering more than anything. To think hes been so lost for so long is very sad. I hope theres a day where we all are who we are and we just keep our eyes on our own business.

Doesn't mean it was any easier, when did Stephen Fry come out for example.

    Good luck to him.

His family seems to be behind him. Being together 27 years, I am sure there is a very strong bond between the two of them, otherwise she would have left a long time ago.

It is between the two of them. If they divorce then so be it. Many marriages end in divorce for other reasons, husband beating the **** out of herself, kids being abused by their father, mother being a tyranical bitch....etc...etc.

He obviously has hidden this for a long time, it cannot be easy for him and although I have sympathy for his wife, I also have sympathy for him. Hiding yourself from everyone cannot be easy.

Thankfully, in this day and age, kids don't have to be judged anymore and can be themselves without the prejudice that existed up to a few years ago.

That's not what gender fluid means. Gender fluid means you feel your gender fluctuates. It has nothing to do with sexuality.
