I think that’s how homesecure “upsell” their customers. Everything over 7 (I think) sensors - fobs, tags, cards, water sensors, fire, smoke etc etc - each of which are €X per month extra if you go with Homesecure monitoring I believe.

If you read my previous messages you'll see why I went with them.

Going with Home Secure and paying the exit fee from their contract after a year means getting the same alarm system for significantly cheaper than buying it directly, and included monitoring for a year and installation.

So if it meets your needs, buying an Ajax kit from the suppliers mentioned in this thread is "best avoided" if you want a good deal.

Personally I don't see any part of the €30 a month as a "good deal" or the whole "upselling" approach mentioned in post 362 above 😉

I take your point that you avoid an exit fee. Each to their own 😀

If it's cheaper to pay the €30 a month for 12 months and an exit fee ( and getting it installed) than buying it direct as most people on this thread have, how is it not a good deal.........

Because a lot of people are very understandably suspicious that it will actually work out that way.

The parent company has a long history of completely deactivating systems and turning them into paper weights when you stop paying the contract.

Maybe it will be different for you this time, I hope it is, but for people who know the history and how the industry works, they remain extremely suspicious of it.

Can you explain this? Are home secure blocking peoples systems even when they are fully paid out of their contract? I have a three year contract with them and an agreement that after that time I can cancel the monitoring service and get all of the codes to take over the system myself.

Sounds like they've done it in the past with other systems but don't see how or why they'd do it with Ajax.

They'd only stop whatever communication of your devices into their server (if any).

I was assured before I signed up that I'd be given the engineer codes so I can configure the system myself.

Looking into alarms at the moment, anything new around that I should be aware of or is advice here still valid?

Bit of a necro bump, but we had absolutely no issues buying the equipment from HomeSecure after one year. Have full control and completely removed them as admin from the app too.

    Good to know.

We got that installed after a bit of research and they confirmed the buy out also.

Can you then get it independently monitored or is it self only?

Unsure about independent monitoring, haven’t looked into it.

Looks like there’s an option to invite monitoring companies via the settings, but not sure how it works in practice or if any companies offer that.

We currently have an old HKC system fully wired. Can the ajax system use the existing wired sensors or is it a case of having to replace the whole system?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,729 ✭✭✭Bluefoam

You can get an ajax hub that allows you to implement all of your existing wired system & add wireless sensors too

Home Secure are the approved/licensed monitoring company here… Not sure if you could use anyone else

Was thinking of a diy job just for self monitoring. The company I'm currently with charge 12euro a month just for access to an app and it does nothing I couldn't do myself. Would love to get rid of it but we do use the app on occasion and find it handy for notifications so would love a self monitoring system we don't need a subscription for. I'll take a look for that Ajax hub. Thanks.

Not trying to have a pop at the DiYers in here but for the lay person.. Is there any obvious reason not to go with homesecure and buy out the system after a year?

The price is broadly comparable to buying all the components and self installing. And you also get a year of monitoring included in their price. And they install it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 629 ✭✭✭theintern

This is what I did, but I still haven't bought them out of it.

They've reduced the monthly price for me when I've asked to cancel, so monitoring is costing €25 per month, or €300 per year.

And every year you stay with them, the price to buy them out goes down by €200. So a year of monitoring is effectively costing €100 total, or €8.33 per month.

Once I don't have to pay to buy them out (after I've been with them 3 years) I'll just cancel the monitoring and I'll get to keep the hardware for free.

    This would be the device:

    https://www.megateh.eu/products/ajax-wireless-security-systems-and-smart-home-automation-and-integration-modules/ajax-multitransmitter-module-to-integrate-third-party-wired-detectors-3eol-support

Easy enough to do but you will need to understand NC, NO wiring etc. (So really your best finding someone who can do it legally).

You'd need a new siren(s) as you can't wire this to trigger the siren.

Other than that you just need a hub. Everything else is optional (cameras, panic buttons, sensors).

One good thing is it supports a 12V battery which I'd say get, means your system isn't susceptible to a loss of power especially if you get a SIM card for the hub.
