    Hi,

I recently received a dividend from a German company through Degiro and I was charged the full the German dividend tax of 26.375%

I understand that there is a double taxation agreement between IE and DE and i should have been charged 15%. How can I claim the difference?

Also, when declaring dividends in PAYE, I can't see German Dividends (or any other EU country). How do you guys declare EU dividends?

    Thanks

every case is different, so free tax advice here is rightfully hard to get.

Assuming it was a dividend paid out and not accumulated, and assuming you case is completely generic, then you would be no.2 on this list: https://www.irishtimes.com/business/personal-finance/don-t-invest-in-an-etf-until-you-understand-the-tax-1.3421331

and file the returns on the form 12, which will tax you at the difference between what you paid and 41%.

Remember that a dividend is an income and not a gain, and is taxed accordingly.

    Thanks.

Is there any reason why this can't be done online? We can report UK, US and CA dividend in PAYE online therefore I'm not sure why we can't declare EU dividends online.

It can be done online. Just not in the same section. Under the dividends section where you see UK US etc dividends there's a section for foreign income.
