I was stopped by the Guards(2 Guards in a car) for going through a red light, they were behind me. I put my hands up and the guard said I would get a €60 fixed fine in the post to be paid within 28 days and no penalty points, not too bad. However I checked the RSA site and they appear to suggest I will get 3 penalty points and a €80 fine. Who is correct.

RSA I'd say. The Garda will only record the offence not issue the fine and points.

I got done for this before few years ago. Was 2 points and 80 fine then unless it's gone up since.

Failure to obey traffic lights is 3 points and 80 fine according to this https://www.rsa.ie/Documents/Licensed%20Drivers/Penalty%20Points%20Offences%2017%20April%202016.pdf but I'm guessing they aren't reporting you for that probably put you down for something else, take this as your lucky day and a warning so don't do it again;)

The increase you see of cars breaking red lights in the last year is crazy. Its not just slight breaking either - its breaking lights by 1 or 2 seconds. Major clampdown needed.

Some guards have a habit of doing that, saying nothing about points, only a fine.

Until the points arrive as well.

Op did they take details from your license
