Looking for Ford Focus Mk22.5 bonnet fix ideas

I have a long standing problem with my 2008 Ford Focus. The bonnet has a mechanism whereby the key is required to open it; turn anti-clockwise to pop it, then turn clockwise to release the latch. These very commonly break and mine has broken several times and is now broken again. When it's broken, the bonnet can't be opened.

It's a very common problem with this model and I've been through all the threads online at various points over the years so I'm looking to see if anyone has any experience themselves or secondhand experience of dealing with this in an alternative way.

The first time it happened, maybe four years ago, I brought it to the Ford dealer (where I bought the car secondhand in 2014). They replaced the lock kit, it worked fine for a while. Eventually it went the same way, first turn pops it, second turn doesn't release. I've since bought it back to them multiple times, same fix, same failure eventually.

So I've given up any hopes of that fix working long term, I was never particularly interested in being able to lock the bonnet in the first place. I'm now looking to hear if anybody has seen any other solutions where the lock has been replaced with something else, a lever or a shaft or something that won't fail. I probably won't be able to do it myself so any suggestions on somewhere that can deal with this in an unorthadox manner would be appreciated. Or even just an idea that I can give to a mechanic. Thanks.

There is a company in the UK Wisbech Engineering Ltd that do a conversion kit for them that changes it back to conventional set up using mondeo parts I think. Will find them on Facebook.

    Exactly what I'm after. Thanks.
