I know the state appealed to the Supreme Court about data retention etc.

Could someone explain it to me in layman's terms. What ramifications would this have in Irish law going forward should the court reject the states appeal?

Finally, how long does it usually take for the Supreme Court to actually make a judgement?

    Thanks

the main one is that, along with the Dept of Social welfare finally accepting that the biometric data they store is biometric data, the state might actually follow data protection law...
