Strange pebbles from stove

    Last week the stove had just extinguished and I heard what sounding like really heavy hailstones hitting the back of it. I just put it on today and noticed some pebbles above the plate.

    Does anyone know what these are? It's an insert, wood burning stove, with a plate above it to fill the gap in the fireplace. When I push the plate in, I can see these pebbles. Prior to fitting (approx 2 months ago), the chimney was cleaned so I can't understand where these have come from.

    I have attached a pic of the plate and what I can see behind it.

    The stove has to be refitted as whatever was holding up this insulation has given way. Get back into the fitter.
