The Gardai are being issued with new speed guns.

    They are LTI-2020 TruCam2 model.

These new guns take a video and photo of each detection.

The limitation of this device is that it has a lot shorter range than the old guns (which will still be in service for a while yet)
The max range of the new TruCam2 is 150m

So the journal is lazy. What's new. What's your point?

There was nothing in that article to suggest that one of the newer guns was used .
The speed mentioned, matched that of the picture, which I presume came from the Twitter feed.

My point is, your assumption that it was a new gun being used with no evidence of such, was a lazy post.

Says a lot about priorities when we have Garda stations throughout the country struggling to get new I.T (still using XP and 7), heating and general repairs or decent patrol cars that don’t give clutch/gearbox issues like the poverty spec third world Hyundai’s do. Gardai required to bring their own toiletries to some stations. They can afford to spend money on equipment like this. Just shows you that we have no police service in this country. Just traffic wardens with tickets to hand out

TruCAMII which was released in 2018
TruSpeed SXB which was released in 2014

Hardly new tech. A month after these were released, there were already products out there to detect

But new tech to our gang.
The current ultralytes are 20yrs old.
And the big block of a 20.20 on a tripod is probably 30yr old tech.

Trucam is a massive jump forward, and will create some interesting case law .

Gardaí detected the driver, “using one of the newest speed detection devices”, travelling at 164km/h in a 100km/h zone"

Yes, I can see how you were confused.

yeah, the smaller (non camera) guns are pretty limited.

The current guns are about 500m and 1km for the LR versions.

The Gardai are really enjoying their new Toys!

I drive near the Airport a lot and have seen them at all the usual spots.. under the Finglas village flyover, Dublin road Swords, Airport...

Earlier I spotted a Garda road patrol car at the Airport to M1 60kph road, both Gardai had a nice shiny new camera each, looked like Snipers trying to click someone doing 65.....

It would be interesting to see the evidence for KSIs in the vicinity of the airport. It does seem like low hanging fruit. We cannot get any help from Gardai in urban areas to protect people going to and from work/school.

OK so these new guns can take a photo/video but only within 150m?

What happens outside that? Vans are different as they have no power to stop someone on scene, but presumably these guns will give a speed reading outside of the 150m range like the older ones, so they can still pull you in?

Camera needs 150 meters for optimum picture quality, the measurement can be made from as far as 1500 meters - that's my understanding of the specs.

Both Garda out of the car each with a shiny new speed camera pointing down the road like two snipers ..Didn't see them stopping anyone and the traffic was light to medium, so would lead me to believe they were conducting a live test/practice session, though i didn't go over the 60kph posted limited to test this theory..The road in question is a wide, well surfaced 3 lane carriageway, it was reasonably bright out, no side entrances or buildings...

I believe it's the same roads traffic patrol car doing the rounds in the area at any straight wide open roads with a low limit around North Dublin...

I'll have the anchors well thrown out before the 150m limit. Thanks for letting me know though

Is this new equipment being used yet? And is it true they don’t even have to pull you over anymore to issue tickets?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,267 ✭✭✭mikeecho

So I was taking to a member of AGS, who was trained in the use of these new speed guns

He said that the smaller unit, has a range of about 500m

The larger one that takes pictures, works at up to 1.2km when hand held, and 2km when on a tripod.

They are super fast at acquiring a speed reading.

    FYI
