A horse is a horse, of course, of course
And no one can talk to a horse of course
That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mr. Ed

Katie Walsh or somebody like that. What would those others know about horse-racing?

    This.

How would any of the ones listed in the poll be of any use.

Mind you as knowledgeable as Katie is, she still seems like a jockey being interviewed when working as a pundit, it just doesn't seem natural to her.

Jane Mangan is surely in the running too but like Katie she still has that jockey interview vibe.

I always liked Tracy Piggott as a presenter, knew her stuff and the whole thing just seemed natural to her. Can't really see any replacement doing a better job, in fact I'd be shocked if they come close.

It's a close contest between Lottie Ryan and the espresso machine in the canteen.

I thought Jane Mangan did a fine job.

I suppose Katie Walsh is favourite, seeing as daddy and Ruby have jobs there already.Jane Mangan is excellent hope she gets it!

So this job has to go to a woman?

Has to be a Walsh, probably Katie but don't rule out Jennifer, remember her spectacular series on TV3 a few years back?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,722 ✭✭✭posturingpat

I was thinking Tracy left of her own accord. It's Janes or Katie's for the taking if they want it. Probably Katie's, shes been doing a lot of the on track/in ring interviews like Tracy does lately.
Janes excellent at the analysis and probably best for her to stick at that.

Why are they getting rid of Piggott? She was perfect for the job.

You won't get a female with presenting experience with any more experience of racing than her.

    Vicky Smurfitt.

In a mini skirt and low cut blouse every week. Even in January.

I know I’m not woke. Fcuk off.

Helen Walsh (Ted's missus) will get it, why not?? The rest of the chlann are stuck in it. They could be like the Royle family and do it from the couch?

I would say they are not replacing Robert Hall or Tracy Piggott.

RTE are screwed and can't afford to be paying juicy TV contracts for people to talk shight about horses.

It looks like Ruby is freelance, they might need a genuine anchor, who was the guy filling in when Robert Hall was sick?

The likes of Sally Ann or Jane Mangan are in a far better position to replace what Tracy was doing. Either way it was hardly rocket science. Both girl's families are breeding horses for years. Jane was great yesterday after the novice hurdle, she knew off the top of her head horses that were sired by Coastal Path and how they are running etc. That takes an intrinsic knowledge off the game, you are not going to get that from the poster girls. Jane Mangan is a fine thing anyways, I love her accent and I would ate her alive, no bother.

Just because they have not renewed her contract does not mean they won't use Tracy Piggott in the future either. It just gives them more flexibility over when they want to use her. I would expect to see her on the Curragh for the Derby for example. She is not going to turn her nose up at a reduced deal to attend the races and get paid for it at the same time.

Don't feel good bringing up the elephant in the room but Katie Walsh has battled a speech impediment her whole life and is in no way suited to a presenting role.

Really? What experience of racing does she have? I think she rode the winner of a pro am charity race in the late 80s and that's it besides riding out for Jessie Harrington.

I think she is winning that battle quite well. Fair play to her. You can definitely hear it creeping in during interviews but it does not affect her performance, she has been excellent.

I'd give it to Laurina or Apples Jade
They might not be up to much next season

Amazingly this is actually the first time I've ever heard this. I follow racing closely but I've obviously missed her ever talking about it.

From a quick google I see she spoke about it on the Late Late.

She does an excellent job of masking it in real life and on telly. To the point that I always thought any pause or em was just her being a bit green at the whole presenting thing.

I'd have to agree with IAMAMORON in that Rte will probably carry on as is with no real replacement for Robert or Tracy.

Yes but why go for the one job in racing which is going to expose her one weakness?

Is her stammer as bad as Jimmy's from South Park? No, but I've seen her get blocked and Ted have to come in to finish off her sentences. Look she has an awful lot going for her. She was a top class rider, is assisting Ted with the training and will probably take that yard over soon, making very good money pin hooking according to what you read in the Irish Field. Photogenic and looks good at the races in a hat and tweed. Just feel she is being pushed towards a media role for which she isn't suited.

Hugh Cahill will replace Robert, Andy Mac is already doing Traceys old job
Jane Mangan is an excellent analyst

Any chance the fella that covered the Castletown Donkey Derby 94 could get a chance? Great man for an interview

I think if she had an attitude like this she certainly wouldn't have a chance.

She is lucky she doesn't though, have your attitude that is.

What she wears or how she carries herself has nothing to do with her stammer. Why would you need to include them as embellishments to your already really weak argument?

Because rte decided sometime ago to back her as a presenter, yes based to some degree on her appearance front of camera I have no doubt. I'm questioning the wisdom of that, and why she even wants the gig actually when she could do anything else in racing.

There is a shortage of female racing presenters. Ive seen Rachael Blackmore being interviewed, she may be well suited for another time
