Help choosing a car

Ok folks, looking to upgrade my car to something a bit bigger.

    Requirements:

    - Relatively young 2015 or younger.
    - Petrol
    - Decent spec
    - Comfortable for longer journeys. Won't be every day but plan to do more 2+ hour journeys.

Would like to keep my budget below €15,000 but if people feel a more expensive car would be worth it then I'd be willing to raise that.

I've never had a nice car, always had small bangers as I couldn't afford much more.

Few cars I'm looking at include Audi A4 upwards, Ford Focus ST, Skoda Octavia, Volkswagen Golf and an Opel Astra to name a few. I had also looked at SUV's but they are very expensive.

I don't know loads about which of the different types of cars get good reviews. Like do many of the cars mentioned suit petrol?
Is it worth going for a very new car over €20,000 or is that just overkill?

I will have to get a loan or PCP for any car so its a big decision.
    Any advice is much appreciated.
    Thanks

Have a look at a Prius. Plenty available for €15k, but for closer to the 20k you mention you could bag a 2016 new model, which is still current. They are comfortable, spacious, versatile and very economical.

If you aren’t a fan of the looks, look at an Arius hybrid or Lexus CT200h, which both use the same engine and hybrid system as the Prius. Both also very good cars for the same reasons.

Lexus IS300h is another option. A bit more up market and premium, but a lovely car. Comfortable, fairly economical, cheap to tax etc.

I’m not a diehard hybrid or Toyota/Lexus fanboi, but on reading your requirements these (mainly the Prius, maybe the Lexus IS) we’re first to spring to mind.

I'm kind of in the same situation as you. Driving old banger the last 8 years (well banger at this stage). Want to upgrade to something nice. Not doing massive milage so petrol probably recommended. I originally was thinking €10k-15k 2012/2015 but as I looked around I realised I wanted something newer that wasn't outdated looking on the inside.

Audi A4 has a new model in 2016 with a nice interior which seems to tick most of my boxes. They also have a 1.4L petrol TFSI 150BHP engine.
I actually prefer the looks of an A5 but they are more expensive for a like for like spec and you have to go to 2017 for the new model.
Also prefer looks of 3 series but you have to go to 2019 (I think) for the new model of this.

There are a lot of 2016 A4s on autotrader for ~£10K. I think this could end up being ~€15-16K+ after import (I haven't imported so maybe someone else can give a more accurate number). But the more I look, the more I realise I don't want a basic spec so now I'm looking at £15k A4s which I think will end up being €20K+. It kind of a snowball effect where where you're like, "oh if I pay an extra X I can get this", and then you're 5K over budget. Then you come back to your senses, reign it in and come to a compromise in spec vs mileage vs price.

Also for the 2016 A4s I finding it easier to find a nice spec in a 2L TDI rather than a 1.4L TFSI. I might just go with the TDI even though people here would be strongly against it based on my mileage. My thread below.

    Thanks for replies folks.

Ideally I'm looking for something sporty like a Focus St or classy like an Audi A4 etc

Haven't a clue if I should go for something decent around the 15k mark like an Astra or splurge out on a dearer Audi etc
