MSCL - have rewatched multiple times. I was the same age as the characters when it first aired and felt it was really spot on emotionally. Still mad it was cancelled without any resolution.

Why don't use you the poll tool that's built in on the forum?

because you can ask only 1 question on the forums and I find it interesting to ask some more different questions about the two Series.

    Please check out the poll.

My so called life, because I watched it (a few times). Never watched the other one. Would their audiences not be different generations?

    Is this a college assignment?

Freaks and Geeks is the best teen drama in TV history.

My So Called Life has many great moments, but has also aged badly and has some less than stellar episodes (like the ‘very special’ ones - heart in the right place and all, but very cheesy episodes of TV by today’s standards). In contrast, Freaks & Geeks is as close to a perfect run of television as there ever has been IMO.

MSCL run from 1994-1995, F&G from 1999-2000 and both are about Teenagers in High School.

    Party of Five

Edit: nah, F&G but in fairness I watched it 15 years after it was made and watched MSCL at the time and really enjoyed it.

Freaks and Geeks by a country mile.

That link you shared doesn't bring me to any poll. Just a horrible looking website.

    F&G

Both did alot for the genre but unfortunately were largely followed by the same type of over acted soap opera.

MSCL was a bit to precious and self aware. Kids were adults.

F&G was all about being a teenager and the supid things you think about, talk about and act like. It was much more honest in that sense, though it was more of a comedy.

The kids had troubled lives but their parents lives weren't really acted out. I don't think we meet any of the Freek's parents, while the do good parents of the Weirs are so far from their Teenagers lives, yet clearly gave them a foundation.

... and you know what they died :)

I was thinking of Millie Kentner when Varadkar said he did drugs, yeah Millie you did!

I was going to set the poll up for the OP, cos Boards supports them after all, but ... ye gods. That's ... ... uh, exhaustive. What are these polls for OP? I'll be honest your asking for peoples' age & gender feels excessive.

I slightly prefer Freaks and Geeks as it`s more unique and original, but my favourite character has to be Rayanne Graff.

Both series sitting on my hard drive. Will watch at some point as I go through the backlog. Currently on Wonderfalls

I loved both, even dyed my hair red to look like Angela, but i think Freaks and Geeks was less angsty and more enjoyable. It was much funnier and i liked the 1980 time period it was done very well.

Rayanne definitely had the best lines and was played really well. The actress who played her was in a very funny episode of Seinfeld as well, she was a little young to be playing Jerrys girlfriend though!

yes, one of my favourite tv characters. I didn`t know she was in a seinfeld episode, however haven`t seen all episodes of the series.

Shes in a season 8 episode called the Fatigues, she played a woman who had a mentor for guidance through life and Jerry couldn't understand why she needed someone like that, its very funny. But yes, Rayanne was great

In Freaks and Geeks it`s much harder for me to pick a favourite, because I found many where really great: Kim; Daniel; Lindsay; Nick; Bill; Millie....

Iloved Bill he was hilarious. The Halloween episode where he dressed up like the bionic woman was so funny. I didnt like Kim she was so annoying and bitchy, i know that was her character but i just didnt like her. I liked the hippie high school teacher he was really funny, and i liked all of Lindseys family and esp her parents, the parents in my so called life were annoying, esp the mother! the father was ok

I like Kims personality, she was so good portrayed and realistic. Patty the Mother in My So-Called Life I found often to be hilarious, but yes she could be also a little annoying from time to time.

and agree on Bill and Jeff Rosso, they are funny :)

Yes, it was good for it's time but style / writing / casting (etc) pales in comparison to F&G. Also it's aged horribly.. whereas F&G still stands up IMO.
