Job seekers allowance (moving from UK)

Hi there. I am moving to Ireland from the UK in April as my partner has recently got a new job in Dublin.

I'm in the position at the moment of looking for a permanent role in my field in Dublin, however, I'm also planning what I'll do if by April I don't have a permanent job. One option will be to pick up contract work.

As a last resort I want to know what access I would have to job seekers allowance once I arrive. I've tried to read up on my rights through the government website, but much like the UK version, it's very hard to find a straight answer.

Would anyone here be able to advise me so I'm clearer?

Brexit may throw a spanner in the works, but I understand you will be allowed claim a UK payment and collect it in Ireland. You might have a look here: https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/migrant_workers/migrant_workers_and_unemployment.html

youll not be immediately entitled to claim an irish jobseekers payment. If you were to sign on in the uk after a certain timeframe you can move it to ireland for a short time
Who knows how brexit will affect this

If moving to ireland for the first time you will need to obtain a pps number, you will need to prove that ireland is now your home and that youve cut ties as such.
Same is to be said of claiming welfare, your not automatically entitled to a jobseekers payment, you will need to prove this is now your home, theyll look for rental agreements, bank account closures in the uk, etc.
Then dependant on your partners income you may or may not be entitled to anything at all.

This seems to be primarily aimed at people who came here to work and then lost that job, not people who are comming here unemployed

    Hi OP
You can apply for JSA but you:
    A. Will be means tested against your spouses income and any other income you have or savings in excess of €20000
    B. Will have to overcome the Habitual Residence Condition. Check it out on the Citizens Information website.
