This website will explain every item for you
    http://www.electricvehiclewiki.com/wiki/leaf-spy-pro/leaf-spy-screen_1/

The important one is the "SOH=90.49%" one.
Thats the state of health of your battery which is quite good for a 2015. I have a 2015 as well and it was 87% the last time I looked.

You lose the first bar on the dash atr 85% so yuo still have all 12 bars.

Thanks kcross you have been very helpful all along with our purchase.i managed to get hold of the uk owner and he was fastidious over maintenance and always had serviced by nissan.

Could explain what the red segments are on the charts and how do I get the best life out the battery

I've never paid much attention to the red bars and neither should you!

They will continually change and are representing when a "shunt" is active. A shunt is when one cell is too low or too high and is giving/receiving energy from a paired cell to balance things up. This all happens automatically and continuously and not something you need to care about.

What you would need to be concerned about is if one cell stays significantly lower than all the others. That would be a weak cell and the whole pack is only as good as the weakest cell as the battery management system will reduce your range to protect that cell from going too low and damaging itself.

The way to check for weak cells is to run the battery down to <10% and then look at LeafSpy. On the main screen it will throw up an extra message saying "All cells OK" or it might show "Weak cell #33".

Not much you can do about it though so just drive the car and enjoy it as you seem to have a good one anyway with 90% SOH.

The only real advice to prolong battery life is dont let it sit for prolonged (days/weeks) periods at 0% or 100%

Thanks again I think we can start to just enjoy it now.The only reason for concern was the ford dealer selling hadn't a clue.i asked about onboard charger he said it was 3.3 but it actually has 6.6 also he made light of battery condition and didn't no what state it was.thankfully i think we got lucky.might try and sorry carwings next.

    Thanks again

Getting carwings sorted is a massive pain, but it's really worth doing. The app functionality is great.

evuk@nissan-services.eu this is the best email to use to get the previous owners unregistered.

gb@nissan-services.eu and this for the relevant docs they'll inevitably look for.

The services have no relation to the Battery Health.

Happy days... 6.6kw charter is a blessing when you’re in a rush and only SCPs are available.

Thanks peposhi we are very happy with the car just need to learn to drive differently to get best range.also need to find a decent nissan service garage in cork that doesn't rip you off

Well wear Peter. You'll have fun learning your way around the car.

Basically if you want to get best battery range, you'll learn to drive slightly slower than you normally would. Horse it and the battery will go down quickly.

As a good guide, allow 1km per 1% of battery, although you might get slightly more with careful driving.

You will notice that driving rain and wind will lower your range too, and very wet roads.

You also might be tempted to drive in Eco mode all the time, I did for a while but found it didn't provide any extra range really, as long as your driving in D or B isn't erratic!

    Enjoy.

Your car is nearly out of Nissan warranty so not much need to take it to a Nissan garage for a service.... although since its a new car to you and if it does still have a few months of warranty it might be worth giving it to them for the first service but after that not so much.

What month was your car registered according to the registration book? Its a 5yr warranty on the EV components so thats when you fall out of warranty on that car as its in its 5th year now.

If you have a local indy mechanic that can look after tyres, brakes, etc then let him do the service for you.

The battery, motor etc dont get serviced.

Even my local Nissan dealer only quoted me €80 or so when I asked how much a 'service' would be, so perhaps worth trying a Nissan dealer if you wanted that 'Nissan' stamp on the book.

Ok it was registered 26/1/2015 so not much left on it.was thinking of the TCU if needed a reset for carwings

Hi I have similar experiences in cork.my wife had a 06 micra around 2 years ago one of the wipers stopped moving I took of plastic cover off and found one of the link arm bushes had broken I took off broken link off rang nissan dealer in cork they said I had to buy the assembly 245 euro not including fitting I got link off Ebay gen Nissan.new 12 euro.last month rang about public charge lead for leaf 700 euro Got one for 185 euro.
The only reason was to see if I can't carwings working for them to look at it but you just no they would make a meal of it

The previous UK owner had the leaf we had and said he didn't bother as he had tried on his earlier leaf model and thought it wasn't worth the trouble.

If that included a brake fluid change and rotating all wheels, it's not that wide of the mark for a main dealer, in fairness. In future, agree or negotiate a price up front if you don't want any surprises. And I don't think you'll get an OEM quality pollen filter for EUR6.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 296 ✭✭AhHaor

It included a brake fluid top up and they didn't touch the tyres! And I totally agree that 6 euro is for some chinese rubbish, but are pollen filters really worth paying a premium for?

A top up? Brake fluid needs to be flushed and replaced every few years. Did you find out specifically what they did?

She said topped up, so I assume they checked level and saw it was ok and left it at that. She also said I was available for a battery check program, they would check the grounding plates for me. I asked if this was the safety recall and she sheepishly said oh yes.

Anyways I've learned my lesson. Gas thing is I'm raging at 150 when I'd have happily paid 150 even 300 for some of the servicing on my previous cars!

I also found Windsor very expensive for servicing, so I now just take it in to them for the annual service (€120) to get the Nissan stamp in the book and in-case there is anything firmware related etc. They give you a very nice list of the work they recommend having done, take this list to any local mechanic for a 50% discount :).

My Leaf is due a service. According to the book it last had a Major service.
I'm bringing to Nissan Wexford. Any idea what a minor service will cost?
Do they supply a courtesy car to use while it's in being serviced?

Very unlikely ok the courtesy car, not sure many garages do that free of charge any more?

Basic service for me in Dublin in a Nissan garage is €120, so you should be paying similar. As I say though they’ll likely give a list of other items you should address (maybe tyres, wipers, brake discs/pads etc) which you really should price around for, I paid half the Nissan price by driving 2 mins up the road...

Tell them you are thinking of getting the new Leaf and would like to do a test drive while waiting for your car to be serviced. Most likely (check with your crowd) you’re covered for driving a garage car while yours is in for service.
    Job done ;)

Just don't tell them it's a test drive, say its a loner while yours is having work done. ;)
