Method of last JB payment after signing off

    Hi,

I was on JB since September last year and my scheduled collection day was Wednesday every week.

I got a job recently which I started from Monday this week. Over the last weekend, I logged on to my MyWelfare account and closed my JB claim effective from Monday.

I checked my account just now and I see that the claim has been closed. I also see in the payment information that my last payment (for the last 3 days I was unemployed) was issued yesterday. A couple of my ex-colleagues who also signed off JB recently got their last payments in the form of cheques. But they didn't sign off online; one guy went to the Intreo office and the other did it over the phone.

So, a couple of questions -
    1) Is the last payment always made by cheque or do I have to collect it at the post office? I just assumed that the last payment is always made by cheque, but I don't see the method of payment mentioned anywhere in my account.

    2) If I have to collect it at the post office, how many days from my scheduled collection day (Wednesday) will it still be available? I have been out of the country since Monday for a full week of induction/training for the new job. I return only tomorrow evening and therefore, the earliest I can pop in to the post office is Saturday.

I also won't be able to ring my Intreo centre until I'm back tomorrow by which time they would be closed. I wanted to email them with these questions hoping I might get an answer during the day tomorrow, but they don't seem to have an email address.

Fortunately, I made it back to Dublin yesterday just after 4pm. So I dropped my stuff at home and headed straight to the post office. Reached just half an hour before their closing time. They did have my last payment. :)

I'd imagine the payment would have been available even today, but didn't want to risk it when I had a window of opportunity yesterday.
