Workout Advice?

    Hi,

My girlfriend has recently joined the gym and is looking for a good beginner workout. She never lifted before so will have to be shown everything so I want to keep it fairly simple. She also would only be doing 2 or 3 days a week so a whole body workout would be better than any kind of split. I was thinking of something along the lines:

    Deadlift 3 X 8
    Squat 3 X 8
    Hip thrusts 3 X 8

    DB Shoulder Press 3 X 8
    DB Bench Press 3 X 8
    DB Row 3 X 8
    Lat pull down 3 X 8

Is it too much for a beginner? Any other advice? She would be doing a bit of cardio outside of the above.

    Thanks

If she doesn’t know how to deadlift or squat if avoid those movements initially.

Or do similar movements with dumbbells, eg goblet squat and RDL to start a progression towards the squat and deadlift

Just to add, given that she's a beginner, just take it handy with the weight. Its more important she's moving weight properly rather than moving heavier weight.

    I started with the following;

    Leg press
    Leg curl
    Leg extension
    Hip abduction
    Hip adduction

    Assisted chin ups
    Back row
    Chest press
    Shoulder press

    Core

After about 8 weeks I moved on to a second program which incorporated most of the exercises you listed above.
