Hey all, I've a 2000 Toyota Yaris thats just about seen its day and Im now looking to perhaps buy another cheap runaround.

I always hear that the Toyota Yaris, even the newer models are still extremely reliable.

Are Yaris really that good when compared to other cars or are there comparably reliable cars that you lads may recommend ???

My budget would be between €2000 and €3000

    Thanks a million all.

He’s mentioned cheap and reliable twice. I’d say he’s looking for a car that’s cheap and reliable.

Op you can’t go far wrong with a Yaris. That said like any car purchase service history etc is still important.

Yup, they're that good, if a nuke hit, all that would be left are cockroaches and old Yaris' and all that.

I got the wife an 05 1.3 a few years ago. The thing is bullet proof. I had to swap out the head lights as they had significantly yellowed (MOT fail) but other than that its excellent. Quite nippy too.

For what they are they hold their values very well.......this actually means they're expensive when buying used.....or for 2-3k very used.

Kia Picanto, Hyundai i10, Clio, Fiesta etc can all be gotten newer, better condition and for the same price.

They are an awful car to drive and to be driven in, but they will be utterly painless to run. If it were me, I'd buy a Fiesta all day long, it will still be very reliable but will be a much more enjoyable ownership experience.

sure better the devil you know, if you have had one for a while, you probably know someone who knows how to service them and who you would trust with it,
I had a fiesta for years that I loved, but when my local ford dealership shut down i had an awful cross country trek to the next nearest one who turned out to be a bunch of cowboys.

Made it much easier to say goodbye to my poor old fiesta after that.

I’d be the same and I’m a Toyota fan generally.

The 1.0 3 cylinder is an unpleasant engine. If it was the newer 1.33 6 speed then maybe, but there is still the issue of interior space and boot space.

    I don’t know if you’d get a newer shape Fiesta for €3k
I’d def look at a Suzuki Swift as an alternative.

The Mk2 Yaris is nowhere near as good as the Mk1 imo. They were not screwed together that great either and feel cheap and nasty in the inside with miles of fisherprice plastic trim everywhere. I think people overrate them because like the OP their Mk1 served them well.

Jeez my Mrs has a new Mk2 Yaris in 2008 ( and Mk1 in 2002 also ?) The newer one was way more solid .Felt like a mini Golf ( and sturdier than Polo) Certainly not ‘cheap’ and I’d guess as reliable .MPG not astonishing in either 50-52 if driven like a nun but could easily be in 42-48 mpg range )
