Leaf 24kw 3.3 Dublin -> Limerick and return

    Hi all,

    I recently got a 2014 Leaf 24kwh 3.3 kw which I use around Dublin. It's ideal.

However, from my experience in bringing this Leaf from Manchester, I know how motorway driving can affect driving range. I do have a diesel car but my question is if I wanted to bring the Leaf to Limerick, can any other Leaf 24kw share their experience of the charge stops they do?

Also, do all Nissan dealerships have rapid chargers? And are they available to use after business hours? I know the Windsor Nissan in airside Dublin do this.

    Really appreciate all your feedback!

You’d need at least 3 to 4 fast charging sessions for this trip.
Possible stops @J14, Roscrea, Nenagh and then Limerick... SCPs in Limerick are super busy...

Ah that's what I was presuming!

I notice you have a L24 too, what realistic range you getting motorway driving?

Also, are the stops you quoted all ESB charge points?

Very few dealers have FCPs. If you don't mind adding 2+ hours to your trip, take the Leaf. Otherwise take the ICE.

Motorway, expect about 90km between charges. FCPs aren't 90km apart though, so you'll have to adjust a bit.

I second that. 90km motorway speed in this weather. Max.
Don’t waste your time unless you have plenty spare...
Your car is with only 3.3kw onboard charger and it would take hours before you get decent charge on a SCp of a FCp is out of order or busy...

It’s doable, but it’s gonna be a long journey...

Don't even contemplate this, broken or occupied chargers would destroy your time, take the diesel

That would be unbearable. Take the diesel ! If fuel cost a big issue , drop the speed to one hundred

If you have to pay for Fast Charging, it makes no sense if you value your time.

    Take the diesel

I used to drive our 152 reg all around the country when we had it. You'll need 2 20 or 30 minute stops but can easily do the journey these days as the DC chargers are largely unoccupied now. First stop in Midway, the second one somewhere before Limerick.

Just drive at indicated 100 km/h, keep a reserve of 20/30 km on the GOM vs the next charger and you will have no problems.

Agee. I did 2 350km each way trips Louth - Cork in an L30 and it took me between 6 and 7 hours each way compared to 4 in an ICE. After that I used the ICE for all longer trips and absolutely no way would I voluntarily endure that kind of unnecessary torture while having to pay for charging!
