Thought it might be interesting to have a thread that highlights things that happened on a given date throughout the years.

We'll start off strong with the 10 year anniversary of the man who slipped on ice, captured by a RTE News report

The event has been commemorated with a plaque

So Boardsies, what other events happened on this day in history (and on respective days if this thread lives on)?

    🤪

Other birthdays include David Bowie, David Silva and Kim Jong-un. Three geniuses and a nutcase.

Bowie had his eccentricities but nutcase is a bit harsh. :pac:

I know I'm a day out but I can't believe yesterday was the fifth anniversary of the attack on Charlie Hebdo. Coincidentally was reminded of it last night when watching a documentary on Salman Rushdie.

David Bowie wrote Golden Years for fellow birthday boy Elvis, who declined to record it.

Very cool guy. The life of fear caused by that fatwah for ten years of his life was shocking. Didn't realise it was so serious because I thought "Ah he'll be ok living in somewhere safe like Britain". It was like being in prison.

He did a hilarious sketch about it with Larry David years later. Great acting and comic timing by him. :D
