    Hi all,

Thinking of going to Malta this summer with 3 kids aged 6 to 15.

    Anyone been?

    What was it like?

Would you get by without a car?

    Is it expensive?

    Feedback would be appreciated.

Not been with kids but was there last year in July and loved it. There were plenty of kids around so I would have it down as a good place for children.

Two things to consider though, the flight is long-ish (about 4 hours) and when we went in July it was insanely hot and uncomfortable for a big chunk of the day so perhaps pick a time when it would be cooler or alternatively spend the period of the day that is hottest by a pool or the sea.

We stayed in Sliema and it was relatively quiet but within walking distance to St Julian's and other more 'exciting' areas that had better nightlife.

Malta is actually quite small and so quite easy to get around on the bus and we also got the ferry to Valetta. You could also walk, but as mentioned alot of walking in the heat might be too much for the children. We also rented a car for a few days and went on the ferry to Gozo and found it relatively stress free as they drive on the left too similar to Ireland. But you could 100% get by without a car.

Malta was not very expensive, food was more or less similar to Irish prices, but alcohol was significantly cheaper. Public transport also not expensive.

I would highly recommend going to the blue lagoon. We went on a boat trip out on a Hornblower cruise and it had a slide to jump off the boat and plenty of spagetti floats available to children. Honestly the best day I spent in Malta was in the Blue Lagoon. Try not to go to the busier area though it's manic. Also Pop Eyes Village has a good water sport activity for children, I didn't enjoy the experience of the Village as an adult, I felt it was a waste of money but for kids it is another good activity to do.
