Just had an idea today to set up an alexa in my car, either powering it with the 12v socket or wiring it in somehow.
It's a 2014 Audi A6 and the idea was to have it for alexa to play songs on Spotify by voice command. And use the car speakers not the alexa speaker. I go on long drives for work quite a bit and thought it would be interesting to try do it and keep me from using my phone to do it.....

Or there's also an alexa app on my phone I wonder could that be used to do what I want to do.

I would say there’s a more elegant solution than that.

Does the a6 have its own internet WiFi or are you using your phone as hot-spot. Either way I think it'll always be easier just to use the phone for all.

I just use Spotify and Google assistant (voice commands) with phone plugged into aux and works perfectly.

    Erm

Any android phone will do this via Google assistant... Any

No wiring needed. It's built into android auto too

If you want to go old school and fit a household echo, it should be easy enough once you sort out a hotspot for it to connect to.

Connect to the radio via bluetooth with your phone?

You can even just download the Alexa app if theyre set on using Alexa.

Alexa needs to be physically activated though? It won't wake to a voice command via the app. You have to press, a button for it to respond.

I did this for a while, ran a second gen alexa from my car's usb port. Was a bugger having to turn on hotspot every time I got in the car. Think there's an app to activate hotspot when your gps detects you are driving but I couldn't get it to work well so eventually abandoned it.

If you have an android phone you can use an app called Tasker to switch on the hotspot when it connects to your cars Bluetooth or any other trigger, I used it for about 2 years when I swapped the headunit in my car for a nexus 7 tablet.

Thats the one Im looking for alright, thanks

Id buy this instead of a household echo, I will do a bit of reading up on it to be honest.

I am new to the echo but it makes sense to me that an echo should be used in a car where your hands should be on the wheel and eyes on the road.

In a house its easier to use a button on a phone than voice recognition.
