if you're posting online then there's a very good chance you've not got the flu, last thing you'd be doing if you actually had the flu would be even looking online never mind starting threads

I used to be of this opinion until a couple of weeks ago. I was able to do simple things like that for the first couple hours of the day after my 14 hours in bed before I crashed again about 10 a.m. wasnt able for anything again after until the following morning for another hour or two.

I never catch the flu. Well not for ten years at least.
    I'm tough as old boots.
    Be like me.

I doubt you got infected and showed symptoms that quickly. Probably picked it up earlier

Jesus lads you're lucky your all still alive. More power to you. My 5 year old was taken into hospital Xmas eve with Flu, we just thought it was a chest infection until he lost control of his legs (for three days only) as the virus penetrated his spinal cord. Scared the ****e out of us but he was fu%king raging that he couldn't walk to get his tablet. He must have had some really odd side effect, it cut off his abilty to bitch and whine about it like grown men do. Still can't figure it out

    From home, or... ?

Had the flu a few weeks ago, there was a few days when I couldn't even look at the light on my computer or phone, and a few days where I could tolerate for a couple hours. Felt so badly that I read mindless yet entertaining stuff anywhere on the internet just to take my mind off it. Wouldn't blame anyone for being on here with the flu ;)

I was doing that too, just lying in bed, unable to sleep but too tired to move, reading absolute bollocks I would never dream of reading when fit & healthy. Like the trivia facts of movies/tv shows on imdb.com for instance.

    1. You didn't catch it on the plane, as someone else said, symptoms don't show that fast.

    2. If he was on a plane, he didn't have a flu and if you are at work, you don't have a flu.

I hope your cold gets better soon.

Guys, when did you headache go away?

I am on my 9th day today & no more fever, still have cough & can hardly focus on anything. My head is very heavy & I feel as if I was drunk most of the time.
    I would sleep 12 hrs a day I could....
Hope this will be over soon...

You cant be tested for it unless youve been in contact with an infected person or recently travelled to China

Not joking here either: it is very possibly a Corona virus as so many fluey-type colds are. But we must indeed all be vigilant for the as yet moderate risk of Covid-19.

ok, so how do you know you havent come into close contact with somebody that was infected or recently travelled to china or do you completely avoid all human contact and run a mile from everybody you meet when you step outside the door?

Ah jaysus, there's a difference between playing it reasonably safe and going full paranoid and overreacting. The chances of it being coronavirus are pretty bloody slim.

As for the flu, this notion that oh god if you really had the flu you couldn't function at all is way too general. I've had confirmed flu a few times and yes it knocked me for six for a couple of days, but after that I was functioning, if fairly bollocksed and felt drained for a week or so after the initial symptoms cleared. People differ. I mean I can't recall the last time I had a headache. Doesn't mean I tell people ah sure headaches are nothing. There are some that come down with flu relatively mildly and spread it to others. If everyone went rapidly to death's door it wouldn't spread nearly so quickly.

I haven't had it since I started getting the seasonal flu shot four years ago.

As soon as I know the new vaccine is in the pharmacy I'm on it. Its the best twenty Euro you'll spend.

This is a disproven myth. Severity of symptoms varies massively from patient from patient with a significant number of people asymptomatic.

Yeah I used to think the flu was only the one where you can't get out of bed, but it can present as much milder too.

One thing I have always got with the flu, on the three occasions I succumbed to it, was nausea. I never get nausea with a bad cold - if anything my appetite increases. Last year though, I got an awful dose, accompanied by nausea. Thought I was gonna puke. I was off work for a week, it was a nasty dose. Still wasn't as bad as the full-on flu but I suspect it was a mild flu.

The word gets misused all right though.

I was struck down with a virus right after Xmas that mimic a lot of flu symptoms; felt like I'd been run over by a truck, my head was splitting and all I could do was sleep for 3 days.

If it was actual flu I'd have been more like 2 weeks.

Served hundreds of people a day from behind a till for the last 27 years. Unless I am an asymptomatic/mild flu sufferer then I would say I’ve only had the Flu once in my life. I used to get one or two colds/sore throats a year though. However even that stopped about 6 years ago when I stopped smoking and started vaping.

Have I now caught and become immune to most Rhinovirii at this stage of my public facing working life or has the Propylene Glycol from the e-liquid now coating my mouth and lungs become an effective anti-viral and anti-bacterial barrier to airborne infections.

(Propylene Glycol is used in hospital ventilation systems for this very reason)

Any other vapers not caught a dose since they started vaping??

That dose just after Christmas was a good example of how people differ. A good mate of mine got it and was fecked by it. High fever, really bad cough that kept him awake for night after night, bad headaches and serious physical malaise. I then got it from the old bastard. A shared long journey in a smaller car with the windows up and him coughing like a consumptive with tourettes will do that. :D With me it was pretty miserable for about 36 hours, no sniffles, or headache, but the cough and weakness. The cough took its sweet time to feck off mind you. The same guy's better three quarters got the same dose and she was really laid low by it and she's not a woman who would normally be laid low by anything. Needed days in bed, the GP and then antibiotics for an opportunistic secondary bacterial dose. Of two other mutual friends who were also exposed, one felt a bit meh for a day, the other had no symptoms at all(but gave his girlfriend the dose. He's such a giver). Oddly of the people I know who caught it, it was the non smoker types who got a worse cough. Mad. Same virus, different people, different results. IIRC that was/is a coronavirus too.

That's an interesting notion C. I wonder would there be much science behind it. On the surface it makes some sense. Like if you were vaping I dunno Dettol(nobody do this :D) you'd figure fewer pathogens would get through.
