Triton t90sr running on

Hi there, I've a problem with the t90sr again.
It's running on for maybe 10 seconds after it's switched off, and it gets progressively hotter during this time, so much so that it would scold you towards the end.
Presumably it's some sort of valve that needs replacing but I'm at a loss to diagnose it?!
    Any ideas lads?

When you say running on, what exactly do you mean? Water only runs? Pump and water?

Could it still be under the 2 years warranty

    Hi Sleeper12
Was hoping you would see this!
What's happening here is I switch off the shower yet the water keeps coming out for 10 seconds or so. No noise, pump is off, just water still running out of it, at alow pressure obviously.
Must check that warranty, I just presumed it was 12 months, so I might still be covered

Definitely 2 years warranty. There is a sticker at the bottom of the shower with month & year it was made. They will go two years & Three months past the date for warranty if no receipt.

    Cheers for the info
Checked it there - says 01/2017
Thats OK, wasn't expecting it to be covered anyway, was kind of hoping it was a common fault that someone has heard of before, and maybe something I could fix myself

You had symptoms of this almost exactly 2 years ago.

Jesus I had actually forgotten about (or just gotten used to!) this.
It must have got progressively worse over time, although it definitely wasn't very gradual in the end, its got real bad fairly quickly in the end

Think it is a hard water area alright, not sure how that would affect it though

I've always run it turned right down, for a good few seconds, before stopping it because of this. Never viewed it as fault as my previous Mira also did it.

Some showers have a phased shutdown ( not t90 SR) where by the heating elements are switched off on pressing the stop button but the water is allowed to run on for another 6/10 secs to purge the (250CC or so) water from the heating can, this should certainly help in slowing down the limescale build up but is a bit of a pain when you have to do this manually. Other shower manufacturers claim that by having bigger spacing(s) between the coils that this again helps to slow down the build up.

Yeah I'll get this done this evening

    Short video here.
If you can disregard the noise of the extractor fan, you'll see the continued flow after I switch off the shower

Can't add videos directly on Boards (Valid file extensions: bmp doc docx gif gpx jpe jpeg jpg kmz pdf png psd sc2replay txt xls xlsx zip) you;ll have to upload it somewhere else (like Youtube) and post the link

Never mind, does the water stop completely then after this 10 secs or is it still dripping out?.

Same issue here with the same shower model :(

After turn off it flows for about 10 seconds decreasing in power as it runs and getting hotter - presumably due to slow run over the hot element meaning increased water temp ?

Pump has stopped so it’s like residual pressure pushing it through

Once it stops it stop fully - no continuous drip.

Are you still in the two years warranty period?

I wonder if it's as simple as a faulty solenoid valve

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,216 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Ya all that sounds like solenoid valve not actually closing fully. Dirt in it keeping it slightly open or stuck valve.

I've had a few that on first installation don't shut down for 30 seconds or even a minute. Once they shut down they seem to function perfectly and I've never been called back about one of these solenoids.

Not a cheap repair out of warranty. Solenoid is only sold with the flow control valve for around 50 euros. This is twice the cost of older solenoids

Maybe just a poor design, can you try it with the shower head removed and run it for a minute or so and then see if it stops instantly, if it does it might just indicate that the return spring on the solenoid is a bit weak.

had the same issue with my shower, actually running for a good while after shower turned off. Turned off all electricity in the house and the water valve into it. Had to google what soldenid valve looked like and removed it , moved rubber around , some dirt fell out and put all back together and shower perfect. Was 3 yrs old shower, but looks new inside.

heres a link to what valve looks like seeminly can cause alot of issues when gone

Your link states that the (this) solenoid coil fits every Triton made since 1983!!, Sleeper12 may not agree. Also the coil may be fine but the valve may be faulty, what rubber did you move around?.

Just to clarify for any other readers, You've linked the coil & not the valve. In your case it was the valve causing the trouble and not the coil. The coil linked isn't a Triton coil as they only supply them with the valve. It's always best practice to replace coil & valve at the same time.
