Looking at either of these 2 laptops to purchase.

Anyone have any experience with them?

    both are entry-level gaming laptops

post links with specs and available prices to compare.

The FX504 had thermal issues but I believe that that was mostly fixed with the 505

Next gen AMD laptops coming end of this month and into February. They look vastly superior to anything on the market. Could wait til then if you have the time to even to get a decent discount off current gen models

the low end won't go below 700 euro tho.

doubt that there will be much movement there tbh

OP, ideally go for the combo of an i5 h with a 1650 nvidia card, even if you have to spend a bit more.

the i5 h is better than the 3000 series h ryzen cpus which can even throttle lower cards like the 1650.

the new up-and-coming 4000 series ryzen h mobile chips look to be a different matter.

This new laptop below, assuming it works well with thermals etc looks amazing.

really light 1.6kg gaming laptop that is understated yet poweful - lovely machine.

Really looking for (most important to least):

    Really good colourful IPS screen
A cpu with a passmark score higher than 8000.
    Lightweight
Enough graphics power to handle Indie and strategy games and FM. (aka not much)

All for around €700 or less :pac:

Found the HP for just under €800 delivered from box.co.uk. Anyone deal with them? This version has a 1650 and the AMD 3550H. Seems good value.

And the Asus version, a little more expensive.

    This kinda sums it up.

yes that HP is the best value one going really at the moment.

the asus isn't worth an extra 100 £

box.co.uk have been used by plenty on here - have not heard any bad feedback about them

(unlike say laptopsdirect whose name is dirt)

    I’ve been on this journey in the other thread and found this HP, also €800;

    Worth it for the i5 9300h .

As I said before the Ryzen 3 series affects FPS (lower) in tests compared to the i5 . GPU was 1650.

After doing a lot more research I've come down to these 2:

    HP Omen vs Acer Helios

Both seem to have around 90% sRGB, decent processors and gpu but not on the light side.

The 2019 model would be best but might have to wait awhile for a price drop.

Looks like you can pick both 2018 models up for near €800 new from German sites.

Why though? Those are old models, old processors, old graphics card. The 1050ti in particular, waste of money. A GTX1650, which starts in laptops at €700 or so, is 50% faster.

Noticed the old gpus too (although 1650 vs 1050ti is more like on average ~33% better https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qf-qedNCU7k would be 50% over a 1050 not ti). And you get a German keyboard if you buy from a German site.

if you ever want to resell the laptop you'll have a hard time selling it on in ireland or the UK with a foreign keyboard layout.

For the display. I don't need a heavy gpu as I'm not going to be playing AAA titles on it.

    Ah yes, forgot that!

Looking at the 2 above over on ebay, they seems to be going for in and around €5-700 2nd hand. The dream would be to pick up a 2019 model for that price :pac:

well you might get that price in a year's time!

screen panels often vary between the same model range (cheaper = worse obviously) and colour accuracy etc with those different screens like the poster in another thread here who thought that he was getting a better screen than he actually will get.

No OP, be very careful not to do what that silly boy did!

Those HP Pav 15s were going for unreal prices on komplett.ie up until last weekend, absolutely raging that I didn't pick one up. This was €899, I should have bitten their hand off.

I don't think people put enough though in to screen when they buy new laptop. In a way it's one of the most important parts. With PC you can just get new monitor if you not happy, but with laptop you are stuck.
When I was shopping 144hz ips panel was a must. Even if I play games that can push those frames, I still limit it to 60. 144hz was not a selling point, the better ips panel was.
Unfortunately manufacturers just have two set of panels ( mostly ) low end 60hz and higher end 144hz, no 60hz higher end panels. I am not talking about 120hz panels that are very common between major manufacturers. Those are just meh.

Yea. Trying to figure out the correct panels, on the specific model your buying, that has the 95% sRGB that you saw a review of, is a challenge if you don't want to be ripped.

Ending up getting an HP Omen i5-8300h gtx1050 8gb second hand for €560 delivered off ebay.

In immaculate condition. Looks as if it wasn't even used.

Did a side by side comparison with a Lenovo 530s and the panel looks a lot brighter and colors pop a lot more.

    Very happy so far. :)
