Have been to Puerto de Mogán quite a few times, most recently last early December.
Having stayed previously in Maspalomas/Meloneras we prefer Mogán.
It's a lovely compact town ( nickname la Venecia de Canarias from the little bridges round the harbour ).
The beach is very good for swimming as it's very sheltered.
There is a wide choice of restaurants and we've never found a place we wouldn't go back to. There is a good choice of eateries with the one or two Chinese and Indian. If you want a piece of home then Dennehy's Marina bar is bang centre on the marina and covers pretty much everything food/drink wise. You won't find a dozen Irish pubs as is the case elsewhere in the Canaries. The entertainment scene is quite muted and Mogán gets quiet past midnight.
For self-catering there are Hiperdino and Spar supermarkets.
There's a market every Friday which takes up the Avenida from the Cordial hotels to the beach and then a separate section right out to the end of the harbour. It's fun for the atmosphere (looky looky !)
For avid walkers it's not necessarily the best as it is pretty much stuck in a valley and the old road out of town is now closed after rockfalls so the only way in is via the motorway. However you could still manage a couple of km in between refreshment stops. We normally stay in the Cordial Mogán Valle apartments and between morning walk, a trip to beach and down for dinner we'd still rack up 10km a day.
The taxi / glass bottom boats call regularly during the day from Puerto Rico so if you wanted a trip across there it's a nice short trip.
The weather this winter has been particularly good and Mogán has the reputation of THE place for the most consistently good weather in the islands.
    I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

PS some good YouTube videos on Mogán here

I flew an aircraft (under supervision, used to fly solo when young) from an airfield off the road to Las Palmas, and after skirting the coast was instructed to turn left up the valley at Mogán, and at the original town of Mogán the pilot/instructor took the controls for the tricky mountainous inland areas. A fantastic experience is to take the one hour trip, 3 passengers can be accommodated.
