    Hi,

I'm in the market for a bike box. Looking to consider purchasing a second hand one as new are ferociously expensive.

Will need to be either hard foam EVA or hard plastic as its needed for air travel. Must not be a soft carry bag.

    Anyone Selling??

    Any options considered...
    Thanks

This one is very good value. I have mine for years.

Thanks for that. I had looked at this one alright. It has very mixed reviews. Critisims being: Won't pull straight because of the proximity of the wheels to each other, falls over frequently, the necessity of the skewer to be protrude beyond the cap in order to be tight enough to hold the bottom of the bike in place...ect...

I dunno...what has been your personal experience with it?

Also, is it the medium or large version you have?

I have mine over ten years. When I bought mine, there was only one size option.
I think mine is the regular, it has black wheels. My road bike (Canyon CF Ultimate SLX) fits perfectly. Years ago, I used it for a 26inch hard tail MTB with no issues.
    As for criticisms,
I use two old skewers to fit the wheels into the box. I have cut the skewers so that they don't protrude beyond the cap.
The wheels are quite close together and are not great for pulling. In airports, I usually put mine in a trolley. It has got a tendency to fall over, I lean mine against a wall or other luggage.
The buckles on the outside straps on mine have broken because of mishandling at airports. I use cable ties now to secure the straps, making them stronger than before.
    The zip is very strong.
When packing my bike, I use beach towels as added protection.
I pack cycling clothes, helmet, bottles, shoes, wife's shoes and helmet, travel track pump and tools in it.
Fully packed, it weighs in at about 27-28 kgs
Mine has been used by me and friends well in excess of fifty times.
At this stage, it is starting to look a bit tired, but it still functions perfectly.
And no bike has ever suffered any damage, while being transported in it.

Thanks for this feedback, very useful review actually. I think I'll bite the bullet and get this one. I can't stretch the budget beyond 150 euros and do want to invest in buying one as opposed to renting as I want to use it for multiple trips.

    Advice appreciated as always.

Will most likely do one or two modifications after buying as suggested.

dont know if you got sorted, ive got the black B&W bike box, bought last year for 345€, did two trips and lent it to a mate twice , no scratches or dents and the bikes were perfect o too!! in relaity if you are travelling with an expensive bike you need the hard shell cases, do 2 or 3 trips and its paid for itself. i may not get away cycling this year so ill let mine off, with wheel bags for €200 collected (galway)

Hi, I haven't purchased anything yet but am tied to a budget of 150 euros unfortunately. Would you consider selling without the wheel bags?

Have one as well and I love the low weight of it so can fit bike and spares and come in under the max weight of 23kgs for most carriers.

Used it for carbon Road bikes and carbon mtbs, never and damage and I once watched a baggage handler throw it off the plane to the ground (lost a few years due to stress waiting to check the bike!) . Mine was made by Polaris.

Only criticism is paid twice that nearly 10 years ago!

Hi no_4, if subscriber isn't taking you up on your B&W bike box offer then I'm interested in buying it if it's still available. Offer your asking of €190 subject to inspection.

Thinking about getting this also. Are you happy with it and would you recommend?

Haven't received it yet but I'll let you know... probably won't actually know one way or another until I fly with it in February though, that will be the real test.

And, importantly, if it doesn't work out, you'll have somebody to blame.
