Looking to buy a MIG for general jobs around the place and some car body work on a car I'm restoring.

I've it narrowed down to three but am open to other suggestions too.

    Portamig 236S transformer mig £845 15A- 235A wire size 0.6 0.8 1.0

    Cros Arc 291C inverter mig £760 30A-250A wire size 0.6 0.8 1.0

    Rtech 250A inverter including stand £900 30A-250A wire size 0.6 0.8 1.0

Can anyone see any reason to pick one of the above welders above another or is there another brand welder I should look at sub £1000 sterling?

    I'm no expert.
In fact it's been a year since I turned on my own welder!
The low amps is important for working on cars.
Have you budgeted for gas ?
I bought mine from wholesale welding supplies in rathcoole, found them good.

Its all horses for courses. Generally not needed but having the option to go to 15a on car panels could be nice if they are really thin under 1mm and you have no tig. A transformer will be more reliable but alot heavier and have less arc adjustment. Do you need to move it about lift it into a car or whatever? Is it in a dusty damp shed? Look out for duty cycle at high ampage if you plan on any big jobs on thicker steel. Make sure its single phase.

I dont need to move it round and it's going in a dry garage and I was going to go with the portamig transformer 236 mig but then I saw the kemppi miniarcmig 200 EVO inverter type and I'm leaning towards that now . Seems to have very good reviews all round.

That looks a nice compact machine. Will be more user friendly than the transformer type.
