Just following up on this again as I think I might need an inverter to plug in an external appliance (e.g. pump and/or lights.

Attached is a simple diagram of what I think I might need. Can anyone confirm if I'm on the right track?

I'm by no means an electrician, but I have a few solar projects ongoing myself. I've found if you keep it all 12v DC you have loads of options for water pumps and lights without the need for an inverter.

OK thanks. Yes, I'd rather go this route if I can avoid the inverter. I wasn't sure what the pumps normally used with regards to voltage. But if I can get a 12v pump that plugs directly into the controller, that would be optimal.

The Pump wont work properly plugged into the charge controller. Defo need a battery in between.

But probably any battery will work. The question is how big battery..
The issue now is does the controller have low battery discharge protection?

Get a 70ah deep cycle battery (leisure battery) Halfords have them costs approx. €125.00 Use solar panel to drip charge battery.
Always power pumps etc off battery not directly off solar panel.
