Frequent urination male

Hi guys , I’m just wondering if anyone has ever had any similar issues regarding needing to pee at abnormally high volumes of times . I drink 1L of water per day MAX but at night I get an urge to go to the bath room about 10 mins after going. I’ve done all the STI / UTI / infection tests but so far they have care up negative.

I brang it up to the doctor about only happening at night but she said that this was normal because my mind is elsewhere during the day with work etc and I’m more focused on the issue when trying to sleep .

When I get to the bathroom it takes 8-10 seconds to actually come out and even at that only a dribble comes out , definitely not enough to match the urge I get anyway. . Even when drinking large volumes of liquids over a short period of time (alcohol) I’m needed to pee every 5 minutes and it’s ruining my nights out.

I’m a 22 year old male and this is having a big impact on my lifestyle because I can’t sleep until late into the early hours and therefore waking up tired . I’ve done a UT scan of my urinary system and I’m awaiting the results from the doctor .

Does anyone have any suggestions as I feel that this could be a deep underlying issue as it is simply not going away .. thanks

I'm 31 and, although I can't offer any help, unfortunately, I can sympathise.

I get this a lot, though not restricted to night time. I do drink enormous amounts (of tea) and i reckon i urinate a lot as a result. However, I too often get the sudden, massive, panicky urge to urinate, and when i get to the toilet there's a tiny dribble. A feeling that should be associated with a waterfall of pee, results in a single slosh as I stand there confused.

I haven't spoke to my GP about it, as I reckon it could be a dietary thing. My diet is a stereotypical 'morbidly obese' diet (lots of sweets, crisps etc.) and I do wonder sometimes if it's something to do with the amount of sugar I'm surely taking in that is at fault ultimately (that said, I do have periods of months at a time of eating correctly, and I can't say I really recall the peeing issue going away, nor can I really remember paying attention to it, though, to know if it went away or not).

I get this, especially when out or drank a lot of water. If in work and drinking a bottle or two of water from the water fountain, I feel I need to go to the toilet every 30mins or so, and will urinate each time. I've never mentioned this to my GP as I had surgery on a blockage in my Ureter back when I was 5 and always felt this played a part, and, when out, always felt it was down to having a 'shy bladder'

You may need to ask for a referral from your GP, dont ignore this. DO not drink anything after 6pm and go before bed.

There are two types of Diabetes, the regular one (type one and two) which you can get tested for easily enough and Diabetes Insipidus. The latter is apparently quite rare, but it's a more involved test and may not be tested as often.

But, definitely get tested for regular Diabetes.

How are you weightwise, over or under what you should be?

Do you consume a lot of caffeine, OP? A few cups of coffee or tea in a single day can have a significant impact on bladder control - if you were to go cold turkey off of coffee or tea, you might return to normal in around 14 - 21 days. I don't think it's something the average GP would consider so worth a shot!

I’m at around 75kg .. I would say it’s pretty normal for my height 5”9 and my weight doesn’t fluctuate massively ..but I’ve never had this issue before prior to 2/3 months back

I used to drink roughly 1 cup of coffee per day at max .. I’ve cut that out and the problem still persists

Unfortunately my GP is brushing it off as “one of these things” which is actually annoying . It took me 2 visits and a phone call to actually get a UT done of my bladder.

Another thing is at an STI clinic 4 months ago I was found to have HPV (genital warts) unfortunately .. anyways I’m wondering is this linked in any way .

If you knew a friend you could do a quick prick to check your blood sugar there as needle and strip are sterile.Deffo agree go see gp.

Could be any of the following

    UTI
    Over active bladder syndrome
Prostatitis or other prostate related illness such as enlarged prostate get gp to check prostate
    kidney issue

Is urine dark or light in colour?

22 is very young to have any issues like that

    Change doctor

    It’s light in colour .

Hopefully when the results from the size of my bladder before and after urinating come back I’ll have a better picture of what it could possibly be . Worst case scenario being bladder size isn’t an issue after peeing .

    Light is good

    Don’t worry

This used to happen to me when I took ecstasy/MDMA. Would feel a need to pee real bad then it would be a struggle to get any out. Which is a commons side effect of the drug.

Just thought Id mention it as maybe whatever mechanism causes that side effect could be at play for you.

Talk to your GP, They might send you for a urodynamics test to see if there's an issue with your bladder.

If your bladder is larger than normal, it might not be emptying fully giving that feeling of needing to urinate more frequently.

Giving up caffeine may help too.

Usually I think doctor's opinions are good but that just seems like inconsiderate and bad advice.Probably pamming it off because of your young age and presumably otherwise good health. Of course it's not normal to want to go to the toilet every 5 minutes at 22 years old and then nothing even comes out when you try to piss. As others said, diabetes is associated with increased urination, definitely get tested for it

Have had the exact same problem for years now on and off. Been to every expert in the country. I am a firm believer of what Louise L Hay reckons. That it is psychological, if I a "pissed off" my body reacts.

I think that you should ssk for your GP to refer you to a Urologist. I had a minor issue and found Tom Creagh exceĺent, very caring and very knowledgeable. If you have health insurance you could be seen very promptly. He would soon put your mind at rest. I hope you get a positive result.
