Just Wednesday/Thursday. It seemed a waste to use up annual leave for days where I won't be overly busy, projects stalled due to other people being off. On top of that, trains are off until the 2nd so I'll be doing this very little amount of work from home.

I get a good bit of time off either side of Christmas but I'm doing stephens day and New year's eve and day. Because it's Christmas the clients I work with will be at their worst as well so it's going to be full on. The joys of social care.

Was ment to be next week as normal for the second year running. Monday-Friday and again the following week. Was told last year that would have 22-1st off but due to business needs etc.

Got my timetable and handed in my notice end of last month.

Anybody hear of any jobs going let me know

I’m off since last Wednesday and back in on the 6th of January. I run a small business so I’ve most of the lads back in on the 28th and 30th of December.

Retired now after 40 years in public service, in since 17 (the late & great reward for a very frustrating “career”). Before the Recession used to enjoy a very decent break from 24th to 1st inclusive, although nearly always had to take half day out of my likewise then decent annual leave allowance to pay back being off on 24th, when my work premises was closed, to to be on equal par with other local authority employees. I did have to work evenings and weekends, but overall just 35 hours per week.

Then came the Recession and our weekly hours went up a bit, which was. Neither here nor there for me, but it meant missing the hourly late evening bus for some people in certain locations. Most annoying to me was the introduction of 3 days from Christmas break to be compulsorily taken out of annual leave. I would sooner have worked those days and keep my leave allowance for my beloved travel. But I was in a minority there and really had little to moan about.

Hope everyone gets to benefit from their Christmas break, or if in an occupation demanding working hard around and over Christmas that the rewards are good. :)

:( Yep, you do. Also been off since 1st November, but now have to go back at the end of January. Thought I was in the clear till the second week of Feb, but got an "emergency" call last week. Feck 'em - I could see the writing on the wall two months ago, so it's not that much of an emergency; they can wait another month. :p

No day off. Working Christmas day but even then students have to book a class with me. Already someone has booked me on Christmas day. What sort of fúcking sad bastard books a class for that day. He has a family and lives with them as well as I spoke to him before, you'd think he'd spend all the day with them, sick fúck.

Finished the 20th and not back until the 6th. Best time to be off all year, if I had to I would do without holidays all year to have the two weeks straight at Christmas (luckily only 2 or 3 days is all that’s coming out of my annual leave though but if I needed to use more I would).

Just refuse the booking and take the day off.

Two and a half weeks with a soft day on call in the middle.
Its bliss as I grew up in a shop which was manic this time of year.

Can't, the company is open 365 days a year and Christmas Day unfortunately falls on one of my working days. I could have taken it off but I'm new in the company and I've exams in January when I'll need a few days off so I said I'd suck up a bit. Still though, the people who book me for the 25th are sad articles.

In tomorrow, off for a week because I had to use up my annual leave, back in new years day. Would honestly prefer to be in work that week, nothing going on.

Especially if it is residential care. I work in a respite service so we are closed the main days.

    Off 24 Dec-01 Jan inclusive.

Company figures not much gets done that week anyway, so may as well just shut the doors and give folks a bit of free time without mandating that’s they take holidays.
