Housing/cover for outdoor socket.

Posted in the EV forum but got no replies, thought I'd try here in case someone has done something similar.

I currently have an outdoor plug in my front garden. Its probably the same age as the house, 20yrs nearly.

Its a but rough, protective flap no longer stays on, and its protected from the elements by a bucket!

I bought one of these to refresh it.

As the socket is freestanding, its currently mounted on a wooden spike which is simply staked into the garden.

But I would like something a bit more decorative and to give it a bit more protection for the coming years. I had thought about building maybe a small brick pillar or cube, and bolt the socket on to that. I know the sockets are ip66 rated, but it would also be nice to get something to cover it to, to protect it from the elements.

Anyone any ideas or done something themselves that I might be interested in?

I have one almost identical to this and they are great. Really do the job well. I only had mine fitted last week funnily enough but the weather has been horrendous so it's had a baptism of fire. My sockets are on the external wall however so it's a bit different to your set up but with regards the housing itself, all good.

Looks good but obviously not waterproof when in use. As an EV may need to be plugged in overnight this isn't going to be suitable.

Although I posted, mine isn't going to be used for an eV, more for lights, garden tools etc.

Would this sort of thing not be more suitable if you want to leave power on for outside lights etc?

I have one of those already.

No I already have a cable coming up from under my garden, and a socket attached to it. I was to still keep using this, hence the reason I'm looking for something permanent.

I have that exact fitting, use it for one of the EVs overnight and for the powerhouse for guttering etc. It is waterproof when plugged in, there is a rubber seal on the bottom.

It is, if you look at the lid/flap, you will see two slots at the bottom to accommodate the wires. You can plug in two plugs and close the flap.

That's just a box for putting an ordinary extension lead into. The one linked by the OP is much more suitable as you can actually close the lid when something is plugged in.
