Small hybrid

Looking into buying a small self-charging hybrid. I live in an apartment, so installing my own charger isn't possible at the moment (I'm a director of the OMC). Prefer to go for a 1-2 year old car but may go with new.

However, it doesn't leave me a with a lot of choices. As a mainly solo driver, I don't need or want a big car.

Am considering the Toyota Yaris and the Suzuki Swift.

Any other suggestions for test driving please?

Lexus CT200h might also fit the bill, bigger than the Yaris though.

The Suzuki Swift is only a mild hybrid (uses re-gen to charge a tiny battery that helps with start/stop and with acceleration from low revs). It can not drive on electricity alone.

A Yaris is a good buy then if all you want is a small car. A 2018 Yaris will run you about €17-18k. If you need a bit more space than a 2018 Auris should be only €2-3k more expensive. Both cars should get you about 5L/100km (55-56mpg) with mixed driving.

My mild hybrid (explanation see above) Suzuki Ignis does 5.3 l/100 km in mixed driving and under 5 in "eco mode" (= cross country, stuck behind a truck) ...and that's with permanent four wheel drive.

From next year on all Ignis are supposed to be mild hybrid and a middle spec 2WD should beat those values comfortably while also being well below budget new ...worth a look perhaps? (even though it's not an EV)

    Whatcar backs this up ...

    8000km

Assuming you get 5l per 100km on your hybrid and 6 on a good petrol only your saving 1litre which is 80 x 1.5 on your mileage or about 120eu a year. Even if you get a mythical 4l per 100 your saving is still sub 250 a year rounding up.

Something to bear in mind. Get the right car first and foremost and if you can get a hybrid at no extra cost then great. Free virtue signalling. But don't hand over thousands to 'save' money.

Let us know how it goes.

Maybe get a normal sized hybrid, and park it further away.

Plenty of Ioniq Hybrids available from the UK, some great bargains to be had
