Supposedly you get a 2 year warranty on the egr valve injectors and injection pump after the recall.
I good few cars have trouble with the egr valve strsight afterwards and is replaced free of charge. .
Id be inclined to leave it be until it gives trouble .

I defo wouldn't be blanking it off.its as big of a job to do that as to replace the egr.anyways its covered under recall and then warranty I'd leave well enough alone.ive done the job afew times and it's a pig of a job

I dont think the egr or any other exhaust components on my 2012 car with partial mdsh will be covered by VW. If cars like mine were covered the main dealers would be swamped! But I stand corrected if your correct. Ill be calling VW Monday see whats the story. There was no mention of any warranty when they installed the software.

They are fully covered for 2 years after the update on cars with less than 250k kms on the clock. They even have a website for it https://campaigncheck.ie/customer-faq/

Dealers were swamped. They started rolling out the update in 2016 and into 2017, the vast majority of the cars were updated years ago now, bar a few stragglers.

Thanks toyotafanboi i read what you linked and i am unfortunately correct. The trust building measures only apply to cars with a full vw service history. Also it states that all cars that received * the fix * would get a certificate to say work was done , I never reveived this

Yeah, take the service history with a pinch of salt if it needs the work done, it'll get it. You wont see dealers turning the cars away for lack of a main dealer history, it's very handy work for them.

There should be a sticker in the spare wheel well stating the update was done. The certs never really took off. Never seen a dealer consistently using them.

Ill ring them tomorrow morning and update the thread. See what they have to say

You're probably better off not doing that. You'll end up speaking to a service advisor who has no idea what they are on about, who probably wasnt even in the job when VW was in the height of this and end up more confused than before you called.

Well I called in to them today. The car ie egr etc is covered for 2 yrs. How it works though is you have to have a fault light on the dash bring it to VW who run a diagnostic. The results of which are sent to Dublin who make the call re warranty cover. The tech did say id be as well off drive on egr will go eventually and if its within the 2 yrs ill get free replacement. Something to think about! I was seriously considering software rollback and egr delete. Decisions decisions

You can have the egr deleted and mapped off the ecu and physically left in the car I’ve done this to my caddy 1.6 the fella that done it for me also brought it from 75bhp to 110 it’s transformed the van for me easier on fuel and never any more limp mode or warning lights, that was done at 120k there’s 160k on it now and it’s still perfect.

Can you pm his details if you still have them please

As others said, you can physically blank it off but it'll throw the Engine Managment Light on and reduce power to limp mode. Find a Local who does VCDS work and he can remap the fault from the ECU.
