I'm kind of sick of the whole permanent 9-5.30 thing and need to take a bit of a break. Currently earning 55K, no mortgage and no kids. I like the idea of been able to work when I feel like. Now my specially area is hardware, Sans, Vmware etc. I see Level 2 support roles going for what I'm currently getting which i am over qualified for and would take away stress etc as well.

Any one doing well with contracting? I think working six months of the year would suit me down to the ground and could survive on that and give me the break i need and to travel.

Just do the sums, no holidays, no health insurance, no sick leave, usually the first to be axed, axed at short notice.

If you don't setup a company you're paying someone to invoice for you.

If you do setup as a company can affect social welfare payment (if it comes to that at any stage).

But sounds like it might suit you if you're looking for a bit of cash and a get away quick situation ;)

No mortgage and no kids and you want to travel - do it.

You can be a sole trader and do own invoices.
How would your customers feel about no VAT being charged? If labour only you should be ok.

In life you will tend to have lots of cash and no fee time or lots of free time and no cash. If you can strike a balance and go away for 6 mths, sweet

Any contractors we are paying a premium day rate for we expect to be SME experts on, i.e. answer all the questions we have in their particular are of expertise. You need to ask yourself if you are comfortable with that

We have signed contractors up with a view to keeping them for 6 months and released them after 2/3 weeks based on the above.

Contracting brings its own set of stresses
