Your vehicle owner's manual will recommend at what mileage the timing belt must be replaced.

Ring 3 local mechanics for quotes.

Ask a main dealer as intervals are often revised.

In my expeirence different garages give different answers on this one. I got mine done at 160k and don't forget there is an auxiliary belt that should be changed too as it has a similar lifespan.

Wouldn't that be the wet belt, it's only on the 1.8 tdci isn't it?

Not sure tbh, garage referred to it as auxiliary belt on 1.6 and it should always be done when doing timing belt even though it is (or was) certified with a higher mileage lifespan than the timing belt.
