Octavia query

    Hi,

My old car died earlier in the week and I am looking around at the moment.

One option is an Octavia, the local garage has a few in Stock.

    They have a 2016 Ambition (110bhp) with 33,000 miles and a 2014 Ambition (105bhp) with 72,000 miles. Both are 1.6 Diesel.

    Price differential is 5k.

I tend to drive a car until the bitter end so am not worried about resale.

I am a luddite as regards cars so not sure what the difference in models would be from 2014-2016.

I suppose my question is whether the 2 year jump is worth 5k.

Both are the MK3, the facelift was in 2013 and after that it was 2017..

The 2016, Better engine, less millage and the Ambition trim sounds like the better choice to me..

Sorry, price differential is closer on 5k.

    2014 - around 9,500.
    2016 - around 14,500.

Isn't the ambition the lower spec with the elegance higher?

Well I'd always go for as new as possible and the mileage is very low on the 2016. I have more than double on my 171 octavia!

@OP , have you a link to both vehicles or the dealership ?

OP, look for one in elegance/style spec if you can. The few extra toys make it a far nicer place. Something like this

I had one and did the job fine. My biggest regret was that I didn't get the 2.0 though.

So has my wife. 2.0l style spec. Great car.

The 1.6 is low enough in power. It depends what you are used to. I have a 2 litre and it's a lovely balance of power. My father had the 1.6 110 or maybe 105bhp and I used to find it a but sluggish. Great mpg though

I recently moved from a 08 1.9 diesel to a 151 1.6 diesel. The new car has lots of toys that the old one lacked, and is more comfortable. Similar MPG on both, but the new one has zero power below 1500 RPM, above that performance would be similar.

If they both have good service histories I'd buy the cheaper one and keep the 5k in my pocket.
They're the same model so you're not gaining anything with the newer one bar the fewer miles which is irrelevant imo.
Bear in mind too that when it comes to selling (if you end up that way) that the closer an older model in year comes to the change to newer the less valuable it becomes.
Hence why dealers always have great offers on new last of model cars.
