Pre-purchase inspections?

I'm currently looking into buying a used car for the first time. Given I'm completely ignorant about cars and assessing for quality, it seems like a pre-purchase inspection by somebody more qualified is a good idea.

Will dealers generally allow me to arrange a pre-purchase inspection on the vehicle before buying, or is it more common to just buy the thing and do an inspection while covered by warranty? I'd definitely prefer the former as I don't want hassle if anything goes awry.

Do all your checks before buying.

Any decent dealer will allow a mechanic give a car the once over.

Budget is 10k. I'm looking to buy from an official dealership.

I'm wondering if I am just a paranoid nutter wasting money when I'm buying from an official dealership, or is this something that's reasonable and commonly done.

I feel like the more info I have about the car the better, and a prepurchase inspection would certainly give more.

If you don’t mind spending a bit more, I’d recommend getting an automotive engineer’s report instead of a mechanic. Someone like assess Ireland would be extremely reputable

If for your own peace of mind and you wanted to get the car checked over by someone else and the dealer doesn't agree to it, I'd walk away

I'd only do it for a private sale. Main dealer supplied would have dealer cover. Also if anything occurs to the vehicle after you made the purchase , which wasn't picked up on your mechanics Inspection. will the dealer cover the repair.

They could argue that your Inspection never picked it up so the issue must be of your making.
