Thinking of getting this laptop for my elderly parents for Christmas. They would be just using it for browsing and maybe some streaming from rte player/netflix. Is this a good option or is there something better for the money? Ideally don't want something that will perform poorly with basic browsing, the ssd in it should help with that

Did you look at Chromebooks? My parents have an Acer one for years and it's still flying... They use it for browsing, emails, YouTube and it's perfect for them.

They are familiar with windows os so want to stick with that. Don't really want to be getting multiple calls a day asking how to do x and y

    Yes world do fine.

Could be an idea to invest in a ram upgrade down the line
