The father came out to a slow puncture in his 16 Juke. Took it to the local tyre shop and they said it was the valve and he needed to get it done at nissan. When he went to Nissan they wanted €200 to replace the valve

Now i know the valves have a TPMS sensor, but i suppose my question is are there cheaper alternatives to the OEM valve and if not is it possible to revert to standard valves all round and turn off the warnings on the dash or bypass the unit altogether.

You need functional TPMS for the NCT. Not sure if they actually look to see it’s not been bypassed.

He should try and get goodwill from Nissan on this.

Those sensors are a dose. The other 3 mightn’t be far behind.

If you could get a part number you might be able to find it online. It would have to be programmed in.

Thanks for the help Colm, wasnt what i wanted to hear but i thought that would be the case alright , the €200 a corner from nissan really is crazy , specially if they tend to go at the same time.

    Cheers for the help

I like Tyreland, especially Kimmage but also mobile. Recently TPMS went off on my MINI and I slated myself - I used to check tyres pressures regularly. Off I went to petrol station. Filled all the (run flat tyres) to regulation pressure but it failed me to get (metal) cap off one valve. Used WD-40, used two pliers. (My grandad had a garage so I’ve changed tyres the old fashioned way with a metal pole). Off I went back to Tyreland Kimmage. Valve was changed without charge and they tried to push me back from giving some cash for their trouble. They bemoaned the metal valve caps and said one of their guys must have taken them off the old valves and put them on the new ones when they changed the tyres, more than 18 months ago!

No question of me paying (but they got €20 for their trouble).
