Toll tag not working - who to contact?

I have an Easytrip tag, and a few months back it failed to work for me on the N25 toll bridge in Waterford. I dismissed this as "one of those things" and thought nothing more of it. I'm pretty sure this was before a trip up North, where it worked fine for me on the M50 and M1 at Drogheda. However it failed to register again on the N25, and I think I may have had difficulty at a QuickPark in the meantime too.

Bottom line is, I'm not sure whether the issue is with the tag itself or the equipment reading it. Anyone got any experience with this sort of issue? I'm wondering how to troubleshoot it, because I'm only an occasional user, and the Waterford toll plaza is the only one near me - I'd have to go a long way out of my way to test it on another toll road. As I understand, the tag is passive, i.e. it's an RFID, doesn't broadcast anything - it just reflects back its identity when near an RFID reader - is this true? The placement of the thing on the car doesn't appear to have been an issue, because it's in the same place as it was two years ago when I got the car and it worked fine for ages.

I did contact Easytrip customer support at one stage about it and never got a reply.

Anyone got any experience of this sort of problem or any suggestions about where to go from here?

Just call Easytrip and request a new tag?

You'll probably need to send in the old tag, but they'll just send you out a new one.

Easytrip are a disaster, i had two tags from them and neither worked, they said it was my car was wrong the positioning of the tag was wrong etc. Eventually I gave up in the end and ordered one from Eflow after a few too many close ones at the Limerick tunnel trying to negotiate from the express lane over to the coin boxes and not having the correct change on me so having to dial up to the assistants and getting grief from them. Eflow one works perfectly.

Ehhh, not quite that simple I'm afraid (unfortunately).

I suspect the battery is just gone and if you bought the tag off them you'll have to buy another one, which cost me €25 a few years ago. Annoyingly they never told me that when I sent them a mail saying it was gone they just sent me a new one and charged me for it (suffice to say I was not a happy camper). The battery isn't technically replaceable either which really gets up my nose (that said if it happens again I'm breaking it open to change the battery)

If you're renting the tag they should just send you a new one though.

They didn't ask me for the old one back either (I think they said to bin it).

OK, so there’s a battery in it? Makes sense now, that it would start to fail intermittently.
